I'm looking for lens recommendations for my Canon Rebel T7. I'm a beginner photographer, primarily interested in taking landscape and portrait shots. The kit lens (18-55mm) is okay, but I'd like something that offers better image quality and potentially a wider aperture for low-light situations and better bokeh.

What would be a good all-around lens upgrade for the Rebel T7, considering both landscape and portrait photography? Also, what's a recommended budget-friendly prime lens that would significantly improve my portrait shots on this camera?

Alright, upgrading your Rebel T7 lenses, awesome choice! For an all-arounder, I HIGHLY recommend the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. You can snag a used one for around $200-$250 – fantastic value! It's WAY sharper than the kit lens and that f/2.8 aperture makes a HUGE difference in low light and for creamy bokeh. I used one on my old Canon for years and LOVED it!

For portraits, you absolutely can't beat the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM. It's a plastic fantastic, but the image quality is AMAZING for the price (around $125 brand new!). The bokeh is gorgeous, and it's super sharp. You'll see a massive improvement over the kit lens for portraits. I still use mine sometimes even after upgrading to L glass - it's that good!

Are you planning on shooting primarily indoors or outdoors for your portraits?

For your first lens upgrade, I'd definitely recommend the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM. At around $125, this lens will perform much better in low light situations and makes an excellent portrait lens on your T7. On the crop sensor, it acts more like an 80mm, delivering creamy background blur and sharp subjects.

If you're looking for more versatility, consider the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. It's got the perfect range for everyday use—wide enough for landscapes and group shots, long enough for tighter framing. Make sure you get the STM or USM versions.

For telephoto work, the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM is fantastic. This telephoto zoom lens is great for wildlife, sports, and distant subjects, with image stabilization that's a lifesaver for handheld shots.

Camera lenses range in price from $400 to upwards of $2,000, so budget accordingly. Start with the 50mm f/1.8 – it's affordable and will immediately improve your image quality and creative options!

Depends on what you're shooting, but here are my top picks for the T7:

The T7's crop sensor gives you extra reach, so that 70-300 becomes effectively 112-480mm. Really versatile setup.
