Hey everyone! I just upgraded to the Canon EOS R5, and while the autofocus is incredible, I’m realizing my old zooms aren't quite doing that 45MP sensor justice. I really want to invest in some high-quality prime glass to maximize the sharpness and detail this body can produce. I primarily shoot a mix of tight portraits and low-light street scenes, so I’m torn between going all-in on the native RF glass or just adapting my older EF primes. The RF 50mm f/1.2 looks stunning but the price tag is heavy! Given the high resolution, what are your top three prime lens recommendations that truly make the R5 shine without breaking the bank?
ngl, after shooting Canon for a decade, check out Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM vs an adapted Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for Canon EF vs Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM. The RFs are light/cheap (pros) but that Sigma handles 45MP details *better* for less cash (pro). Honestly, the 35mm is the best value street choice cuz it’s tiny and sharp—it works. you know? gl!
Seconded!
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
Ok so, after years of shooting high-res bodies, I've learned you gotta be careful because 45MP realy exposes lens flaws. For a safe bet, I suggest the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM and the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM. Both are super sharp and have IS for stability. Also, an adapted Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for Canon EF is basically a steal for detail. gl!
