I just got a used R5 for my family trip to Florida next month but I have no idea how lenses work or which one to buy for general stuff. I have about 900 dollars left to spend. sorry if this is a basic question but what is the best versatile rf lens?
I took my R5 to Disney last year and honestly almost went broke buying glass! For your budget, I love these two:
Saw this earlier and had to jump in! You're gonna have a blast in Florida. Definitely check out the Canon Refurbished site to save cash.
Like someone mentioned, the 24-105mm range is the sweet spot. Since you're going to Florida, you really need to consider weather sealing and humidity tho.

tl;dr: Grab a stabilized zoom lens so you dont have to swap glass in the heat. I think stabilization is super important since youre new to the R5. Not sure but someone told me it helps a lot with shaky hands... having one lens that covers wide and zoom is way safer than swapping glass in Florida humidity. Its a decent way to protect your sensor from dust too. Variable aperture lenses are usually cheaper alternatives if you're on a budget.
