I've tried many setups over the years and honestly, being cost-conscious is the only way to survive this hobby without going broke. I remember one year I went totally overboard during a big sale because I was convinced I was gonna become some pro portrait guy.

• bought three heavy duty stands
• got a massive octa box that literally doesnt fit in my trunk
• spent way too much on trigger systems I barely understand I dragged all that stuff out on a road trip to some national park thinking I'd do a whole model in the wilderness shoot, but I ended up just getting annoyed with the weight. Spent the whole time worrying about my batteries dying while my wife was actually enjoying the view. I basically spent four hours setting up for one shot of a tree that looked better on my phone anyway. Anyway lol, probably didnt help much with the actual price tracking.
