> Is there any good deals at Focus Camera this Black Friday? Late to the party but honestly Focus has been a bit of a letdown lately. A few years back they were the go-to for serious value, but my last experience was frustrating. I ordered a Sony Alpha 7 IV kit and most of the bonus items were basically landfill fodder. The generic filters actually ruined a few sunset shots with weird ghosting, which was super disappointing for a veteran shooter. Instead of getting lured by the massive 20-piece bundles, I would look for the specific instant rebates. You can usually find a decent price on a Canon EOS R6 Mark II or even the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Sony E without all the extra fluff. Tbh, you are better off buying the body solo and then grabbing a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I separately. Those mega bundles are often just a way to move old stock that nobody actually wants. Stay sharp on the actual item prices and dont let the fluff distract you.

Speeeeeed is spot on, Focus is usually the king of those mega bundles during the holidays. Ive been shopping there for years and learned a few things about how they stack up against B&H or Adorama. Last Black Friday I picked up a Sony Alpha a7R V Mirrorless Camera and instead of the usual cheapo accessories, they actually included a solid SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II card that could handle the high bitrate video. Technical stuff to watch for:

  • Focus bundles often include Lexar Professional 2000x 128GB SDXC cards. These are UHS-II and way better than the generic stuff you see on eBay.
  • Check the battery brands. Sometimes they include a Wasabi Power Battery for Sony NP-FZ100 which is a decent backup, but I still prefer OEM for professional work.
  • Look at the tripod quality. If it is a Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB 100 it is worth the extra cash in the bundle, but skip the ones that look like flimsy plastic. Focus usually wins on pure value-add items, tho I find B&H is faster at processing returns if you get a lens with bad centering. Just depends if you want the extra gear or the peace of mind.
