I've been having a blast with my new DJI Avata 2, but man, those official Intelligent Flight Batteries are really pricey! I’m looking to pick up a few more spares for longer sessions, and I’ve seen some third-party options online that are significantly cheaper. I’m a bit nervous, though, because I know DJI uses complex battery management systems (BMS) for safety. I’m worried about potential issues like mid-air power loss or even fire hazards during fast charging. Plus, I don't want to risk voiding my DJI Care Refresh if something goes wrong. Has anyone here actually tried using non-OEM batteries with the Avata 2? Do they hold up well during high-speed maneuvers, or should I just stick with the originals?
> I’m a bit nervous, though, because I know DJI uses complex battery management systems... Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, it's not just the BMS encryption; it's the *discharge curve*. Generic cells often sag heavily during high-G punch-outs. If voltage drops too low mid-flip, the ESCs might cut out. Plus, third-party packs won't communicate correctly with the DJI 65W Portable Charger for safe balancing. Just not worth risking your drone or voiding DJI Care for a few bucks... stay safe out there!
Quick reply while I have a sec... dude, I totally feel u on the price of those packs. Honestly, I tried looking for cheaper alternatives like those generic "no-name" cells for my older FPV builds but for the Avata 2?? Its kinda risky. I had a really bad experience with a generic battery on my old setup where the voltage just dropped out of nowhere... super scary and it was not as good as expected at all. Here's how I see the options right now:
- **Generic 3rd-party packs**: Pros: Way cheaper. Cons: They usually dont have the proper BMS encryption, so u might get "Battery Communication Error" and literal mid-air shutoffs. Plus, highkey risk of fire during fast charging cuz they cant handle the amps.
- **Official DJI Avata 2 Intelligent Flight Battery (2150 mAh)**: Pros: 100% safe, works with DJI Care, reliable BMS. Cons: Total wallet killer. If youre looking for value, I actually found it's better to just hunt for a deal on the DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo (Three Batteries) instead of buying them solo. Basically, if u use fake ones, youre risking your whole drone just to save a few bucks. Idk, just doesnt seem worth it to me after my last crash!! TL;DR: Stick to official DJI packs. Buy the DJI Avata 2 Two-Way Charging Hub bundle to save money long-term. Generic ones are highkey sketchy. Good luck with the sessions tho! 👍
yo honestly i would suggest staying away from the cheap stuff and just getting the DJI Avata 2 Intelligent Flight Battery. in my experience, third-party BMS chips can't handle the high discharge rates needed for those aggressive FPV maneuvers. you risk a mid-air power failure or even fire... basically, its reallyyy not worth voiding your care refresh or losing the whole drone just to save a few bucks. be careful out there! 👍
> I’m a bit nervous, though, because I know DJI uses complex battery management systems... You might find this useful—i had issues with generic stuff before and it was realy not as good as expected... super disappointing. - DJI Avata 2 Intelligent Flight Battery: already suggested, best BMS encryption. - Third-party: cheap, but C-ratings tank during punch-outs.
- Open Box OEM: best value. Best choice? Stick to official. Check the tech teardowns on MavicPilots for more data. gl!
Solid advice 👍
