DJI Pocket 4 or Insta360 Luna Ultra, which one will be better?

So Ive been using the Pocket 3 for my travel stuff for over a year now and honestly its been my favorite piece of gear like ever. The low light on that 1-inch sensor is just killer for night markets and stuff but I'm starting to see all these leaks for the Pocket 4 and then there is the Insta360 Luna Ultra (if thats even what they are calling it, rumors are all over the place) and I'm honestly torn for my big Japan trip this November. I've got about $700 set aside specifically for a new primary vlogging cam but I'm hit with a bit of a dilemma.

Usually I'm a DJI person through and through because of the physical gimbal. You just cant beat that smooth motion without the weird crop you get from electronic stabilization but I saw some leaked specs about the Luna Ultra having some kind of hybrid sensor thats supposed to rival the dynamic range of a full frame cam. That sounds like absolute cap but if it's even halfway true I might have to jump ship. My Pocket 3 has started doing this weird thing where the gimbal motor vibrates slightly when it's cold which is making me nervous for my winter shoots in Hokkaido.

I need something that handles:

  • extreme temperature shifts from outside to inside
  • quick face tracking for when I'm walking through crowds
  • fast charging because I'm always on the move

The thing is I'm worried DJI might play it safe with the 4 and just give us a slightly better screen or something boring. Meanwhile Insta360 usually goes wild with the software features and AI stuff. If the Luna Ultra has better AI masking for the sky and skin tones then that might be the play. Does anyone know if the Luna is gonna keep that action-cam form factor or go for the wand style like the Pocket series? I really hate having to use a tripod for everything and the Pockets form factor is just so discrete for street shooting.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone has heard more solid info on the sensor size comparison or the low light performance? If you had to pick one for a once-in-a-lifetime trip which way are you leaning...

It will rebranded as "Xtra"

Saw this today and it reminded me of my time in Sapporo. The thermal shock when moving indoors is a major factor for mechanical components like gimbal motors. I eventually switched to the Sony ZV-1 II Vlogging Camera 1-inch Sensor for winter travels since it lacks a fragile arm. While DJI tracking is basically the gold standard, a ruggedly built Luna might be the more durable choice if it prioritizes weather sealing for those Hokkaido conditions.

Honestly, my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 1-inch CMOS Gimbal let me down during a cold snap in Seoul. That motor vibration is a total killer. Unfortunately, DJI hardware feels too fragile for extreme weather lately. For Hokkaido, I'd skip the rumors and look at:

> "DJI hardware feels too fragile" I disagree. The GoPro HERO12 Black is tougher, but the Canon PowerShot V10 is cheaper. Honestly, keep your current gear; it's still better than those or the rumors for Japan.
