Hey everyone! I just finally pulled the trigger on a DJI Mini 4 Pro, and I’m super excited to get it in the air. It’s my first 'real' drone, and while the Fly More Combo comes with some great basics, I’m wondering what else I actually *need* to make the experience better or more professional. I’ve been looking into ND filters because I really want that cinematic motion blur in my daylight videos, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the brands—is it worth springing for Freewell, or are the standard DJI ones enough? Also, since this thing is so light, I’m worried about landing in tall grass or sandy areas; would a portable landing pad be a smart buy or just extra bulk? I’m also curious if anyone has found a hard-shell carrying case that fits the RC 2 controller more securely than the default soft bag. I plan on using it mostly for travel vlogging and landscape shots, so portability is key, but I want to protect my investment. For those who have been flying the Mini 4 Pro for a while, what are your absolute top 'must-have' accessories, and are there any popular ones that I should just skip?
Quick question - what kind of terrain are you mostly hitting for your travel vlogs? Before I give advice, I wanna focus on safety first cuz protecting that gimbal is literally everything. In my experience, these budget options are lifesavers: * Lykus Titan MA210 Hard Case for DJI Mini 4 Pro
* STARTRC 20 inch Waterproof Foldable Landing Pad Are you mostly in sandy spots or just tall grass? Knowing your typical environment helps me suggest the best budget-friendly protection!
In my experience, you dont actually need the priciest gear to get pro results. After years of flying, here is what I recommend to save some cash: - Standard DJI Mini 4 Pro ND Filters Set (ND16/64/256) - honestly, they work well enough!
- A Smatree Hard Carrying Case for DJI Mini 4 Pro - its like $30 and super solid.
- Grab a SanDisk 128GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I V30 card. Basically, keep it simple and just fly! 👍
Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, DJI filters are fine, but I actually had issues with color shifting on mine... basically ruined a few sunset shots. For pro results, try these:
* Freewell Bright Day 6-Pack ND Filters for DJI Mini 4 Pro
* SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-I V30 Skip the landing pad; it's just extra bulk you dont need for travel vlogging. gl!!
I totally agree with the idea that you don't need to drop a fortune on brand-name gear right away to get good results. Tbh, if you're looking to save a few bucks, you can go the DIY route for some of this stuff. Instead of a fancy landing pad, I sometimes just carry a small piece of stiff cardboard or even use the drone's own box if the ground is sketchy—it’s free and works just as well for keeping dust out of the motors, lol. One thing that’s a must-have for peace of mind (and way cheaper than a repair) is a screen protector for the RC 2. I grabbed the iVUE Tempered Glass Screen Protector for RC 2 and it’s basically invisible but saves you from those annoying micro-scratches. Also, if you're worried about dropping the controller while vlogging, check out the BRDRC RC 2 Controller Lanyard. It’s super cheap and honestly feels more secure than just gripping it all day. You don't always need the pro-level kits to keep your investment safe, you know? Just focus on the small things that prevent accidents first!
hey, congrats on the pickup! the mini 4 pro is a beast for its size. honestly, i think ur right to be looking at accessories early. i mean, the fly more combo covers the basics, but for vlogging, you'll want a bit more. for the nd filters, i'm not totally sure about the exact light transmission specs, but i think freewell is usually the way to go cuz they have those hybrid nd/pl sets that help with glare. the dji ones are decent, but maybe a bit limiting for pro shots. here's what i'd recommend:
- a landing pad... basically a must because the ground clearance is tiny and u dont want dust in the motors.
- a glass screen protector for that rc 2.
- a hardshell case (iirc there are some good third-party ones like Lycus or StartRC that feel way more secure). the landing pad is a bit of a pain to carry, but it saves ur gimbal in tall grass for sure. what kind of landscapes are u hitting first? cheers!
Same setup here, love it
So, congrats on the new drone. If you want to talk real-world performance, you have to look at your power cycle and flight endurance. Most people stick to the standard batteries, but the DJI Mini 4 Pro Intelligent Flight Battery Plus is a total game changer for landscape work. I have benchmarked these and the extra 10 to 12 minutes of air time is CRITICAL when you are waiting for that perfect sunset light. Just keep in mind it puts you over the 249g weight limit. Since you mentioned travel, charging speed is everything. Those standard phone bricks are way too slow for the Fly More hub. I use the Anker 735 Charger GaNPrime 65W because it is compact and actually has the juice to fast-charge the hub and your RC 2 at the same time. Tbh, for safety and visibility, I never fly without a Firehouse Technology Arc V Drone Strobe. It is tiny but makes the drone much easier to spot against a bright sky or at twilight, which gives me way more confidence when the drone is far out.
