I finally pulled the trigger and picked up the DJI Mini 4 Pro! I have been eyeing this drone for months, and now that it is sitting on my desk, I am beyond excited to get it up in the air. I went ahead and got the Fly More Combo Plus because I knew I would want that extra flight time and the charging hub, but now that I am looking at all the third-party gear and official add-ons, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the choices.
I am primarily planning on using this for travel photography and some light cinematic videography while hiking. Since it is such a lightweight and somewhat delicate piece of tech, my main concern is making sure I am protecting my investment while also getting the best possible image quality. I have seen a lot of talk about ND filters, but as a beginner, I am not sure if I should go with a basic set or something more specialized like a circular polarizer. Is it worth getting the 360-degree prop guards if I am mostly flying in open spaces, or are they just for indoor use?
Another thing I am debating is a landing pad. I will be in some sandy and grassy areas, and I am worried about the gimbal getting gunked up or the sensors getting triggered by tall blades of grass. Do people actually use those, or are they just extra weight to carry around? I also noticed that the propeller holders that come with the drone are okay, but I am wondering if there are better third-party straps to keep everything snug when it is shoved in a hiking pack.
I have about $150 to $200 left in my budget for accessories, and I want to make sure I am buying things that actually add value rather than just cluttering up my gear bag. I have already looked at some hard-shell cases, but I am torn between a compact carrying case and a larger one that fits the controller and all the batteries.
For those of you who have been flying the Mini 4 Pro for a while, what are the absolute essentials that you never leave home without? Are there any specific brands for filters or cases that you swear by, or any small quality of life accessories that a newbie might overlook?
Basically, the Mini 4 Pro has a fixed aperture, so ur shutter speed goes wild in daylight. ND filters fix this by kinda cutting light for smooth cinematic motion. Ive found these budget-friendly picks work best...
Curious about one thing: are you hiking in windy coastal spots or woods? It changes what's safe. For your budget, check these storage options:

Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
Hmm, I've had a different experience. Respectfully, I'd consider skipping the landing pad. I think hand-launching is safer for your gimbal when you're hiking through tall grass or sand. Not sure but I've heard some say pads just add unnecessary bulk to ur pack (at least thats what worked well for me). Also, iirc you probably dont need a massive filter kit... maybe just a high-end polarizer from PolarPro? No complaints here. Good luck!
Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷
