I just picked up the Osmo Pocket 3 and really need advice on ND filters to nail that 180-degree shutter rule. I'm worried about magnets being too weak or getting a weird color cast. Should I go with Freewell, K&F, or the official DJI set? What are you guys using for the best results?

Stumbled upon this discussion and wanted to chime in because I went through the same dilemma last month. Honestly, you might find this usefulβ€”there's a great resource at a site like Camera Decision or even just searching YouTube for side-by-side color cast comparisons because some filters are actually terrible with skin tones. Basically, if ur on a budget, you gotta look at value per glass piece. Here is my technical breakdown of the options:

  • K&F Concept DJI Osmo Pocket 3 ND Filter Kit 6-Pack is probably the best bang for your buck right now. I mean, you get a full set for like $45-50. The magnets are actually really strong, so they wont just fall off during fast pans.
  • Freewell DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Bright Day Filter Set 6-Pack is the intermediate choice. It's about $70, but the color neutrality is SOOO good. If you are worried about that weird green or blue cast, this is the way to go.
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Magnetic ND Filters Set is decent, but honestly, paying $55 for only three filters feels like a ripoff compared to the others. Pro tip: check out some raw footage comparisons on forums like MavicPilots too, they have great side-by-sides. I think the K&F ones are the winner for most people since the quality is like 95% of the Freewells for much less cash. Gl with the new gear!!

> Should I go with Freewell, K&F, or the official DJI set? What are you guys using for the best results? Quick question - before i give advice, what kind of footage are you actually planning to shoot the most?? like are we talking chill vlogs or high-speed action? Ngl i gotta warn you about the magnet strength cuz thats a huge safety concern. its seriously the most important thing!! if the magnets are weak, your filter could literally fly off and hit the gimbal during a fast pan, which is basically a nightmare for the motor. i mean, ive heard some third party ones can mess with the calibration if they're too heavy too. safety-first perspective is key here cuz you dont wanna brick ur new toy! so yeah, are you shooting in super bright sun or more overcast? knowing ur typical lighting will help me figure out which brand has the best density for that 180-degree rule without the color shifting too much... some of those cheap ones are terrible with green tints tbh!

Re: "Commenting to find later" - saw this thread earlier and figured i should weigh in. I've tried many sets over the years and the technical specs on the glass usually tell the whole story.

  • PGYTECH DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Filter Set (Professional): In my experience, these are the most reliable. They use SCHOTT glass which is crucial for preventing that green or magenta color cast you mentioned. The double-sided coating makes them super easy to clean when you inevitably smudge them with your thumb.
  • PolarPro DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Vivid Collection: This is the premium choice. The CinemaSeries glass is top-tier and the magnets are arguably the strongest on the market. I dont worry about these flying off even during fast pans. Honestly, dont bother with the cheap generic options. Most color shifting happens at ND64 or higher, and the PGYTECH glass stays the most neutral in those darker ranges. Just make sure the gimbal is powered off when you swap em so you dont stress the motors.

To add to the point above: I am honestly super satisfied with my choice now, but getting here was such a total headache. It is so frustrating how much you have to second-guess every single brand before hitting buy.

  • Be careful with those super cheap generic sets. I tried one and the magnets were so weak I almost lost the filter within five minutes of vlogging. Such a waste of money.
  • The price gap between the official DJI set and brands like Freewell or K&F is just annoying. You feel like you are getting charged way too much just for a logo.
  • I am happy with what I have now, but the constant fear of a filter flying off because the magnet isnt strong enough is a huge mood killer when you are just trying to shoot. It works well enough once you finally settle on one, but the trial and error is honestly exhausting... just glad I dont have to deal with that part anymore.
