I just bought a Fujifilm X-T5 because everyone said it was great for travel but honestly I am panicking because it arrives tomorrow and I realize I have nothing else. No extra batteries or cases or anything. I spent most of my savings on the camera body so I dont have a huge budget left maybe like 150 dollars and I leave for my trip to Iceland on Wednesday. I have no idea where to start or what is actually necessary vs what is just extra stuff. Do I need a special screen protector or a specific type of memory card because there are so many options and I am totally lost. What are the absolute bare minimum things I need to actually use it?

Adding my two cents since the guys pretty much covered the power and storage basics already. You definitely need a way to hold that thing safely in the Iceland wind, especially with gloves on.

  • SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Fujifilm X-T5 4136: Way cheaper than the official one and works perfectly. No complaints here, it makes the body much easier to grab.
  • Fujifilm Hand Grip MHG-XT5: The official version. It feels more premium but honestly it eats way too much of your remaining budget. For safety, Ive been really satisfied with the Peak Design Shell Camera Cover Medium. Its saved my dials from mist and salt spray more than once. Skip the fancy leather cases for now... they look cool but wont protect you from a waterfall. Just stick to a grip and a rain cover and you'll be set for the trip.

Tbh, the most annoying thing about the X-T5 is it doesnt come with a wall charger. In my experience, charging via the camera port in a wet place like Iceland is just asking for trouble. Grab a Nitecore FX3 Dual Slot USB Charger for Fujifilm NP-W235. Also, definitely slap on a Expert Shield Screen Protector for Fujifilm X-T5 because the volcanic dust there is basically sandpaper. It saved my screen last time I was in Vik.

In my experience, Iceland is brutal on gear. I once missed a shot of the Northern Lights because my single battery died in the cold. You definitely need spares. Just get any extra batteries from Fujifilm Spare Batteries and you'll be fine. For storage, I always trust whatever cards SanDisk SD Memory Card is selling. Honestly, dont worry about the extra gadgets right now.

I've been thinking about your trip all morning and honestly I'm so excited for you! Iceland is gonna be amazing with that camera! Quick question though before I list everything out... what lens are you actually taking? And do you have a bag or are you just gonna toss it in a backpack? Since you're on a budget, my best tip is to focus on not dropping the thing lol. I'm super paranoid about gear safety so I'd say the Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap is a total lifesaver. It's fantastic because it's so secure and wont let the camera slip off your shoulder while you're hiking. Also, definitely look at the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5. It makes the camera way easier to hold onto when your hands are cold and it's super affordable compared to the brand name stuff. Keeping that investment safe is key!
