Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a Fujifilm X-T5. I’m moving over from an older DSLR, and I’m beyond excited to dive into the Fuji ecosystem and start playing with those film simulations. However, since this is a pretty significant investment, I want to make sure I’m setting myself up for success right out of the box.

I’ve been looking at some basics, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the options. Since the X-T5 has that high-resolution 40MP sensor, I’m wondering if my old SD cards will cut it or if I need to invest in faster UHS-II cards to handle the larger file sizes and better write speeds. Also, how is the battery life in real-world use? Should I grab an extra NP-W235 or a dual charger right away? I’ve also heard mixed things about the grip size for people with larger hands, so I’m debating if a SmallRig baseplate or a thumb grip is a must-have for better handling.

I’m mostly planning on doing street photography and some light landscape work. I’d love to hear from fellow X-T5 owners—what were the first few things you bought that actually made a difference in your shooting experience?

Curious about one thing: how are you planning to carry this during street sessions? Neck strap or wrist loop? I ask because I unfortunately had a cheap strap snap once... it was SO bad. Quick tip: grab the ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Fujifilm X-T5 and some Peak Design Anchor Links. Screen repairs are a nightmare, so keeping that glass safe is basically priority one. gl!

Yo, congrats on the X-T5! It's a total beast but honestly that 40MP sensor is *demanding*. In my experience, you really gotta be careful about storage. You could try ur old cards (Option A), but writing huge RAW files on UHS-I is basically gonna be a bottleneck. I highkey suggest Option B: the SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB UHS-II V90 SDXC Memory Card. It's way safer for those high write speeds and prevents buffer lag or corruption. For power, I'm always cautious about the USB port wearing out from constant charging. Option A is the included cable, but Option B—getting a Fujifilm BC-W235 Dual Battery Charger and an extra Fujifilm NP-W235 Li-Ion Battery—is better for reliability. I'd avoid cheap 3rd party batteries since they might swell and get stuck in the bay. Handling-wise, compare a SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Fujifilm X-T5 (Option A) to a Haoge THB-XT5B Thumb Rest (Option B). For street photography, the thumb grip is basically a must-have for stability. Honestly, if your gonna invest this much, dont cheap out on the cards. Cheers!

hey! i was happy to find that the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4136 actually works well for larger hands without costing a fortune. Pro tip: check out the Alik Griffin blog for real-world speed tests on that 40MP sensor... it basically saved me from overpaying for overkill cards. honestly, just get what u need for street stuff and save the rest for glass!! gl

Exactly what I was thinking
