Hey everyone! I just picked up a new Fujifilm X-T5 and I am obsessed with the vintage look. I plan on doing a lot of street photography, but I noticed the grip is a bit shallow for my larger hands. I'm also worried about the 40MP sensor filling up my old SD cards way too fast.
I am currently trying to decide on a few essentials:
Since this is my first Fuji, I really want to get the setup right without buying useless junk. What are your absolute must-have accessories for this specific camera?
Since youre pushing 40MP RAW files, data throughput is everything. Ive found the Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB UHS-II SDXC actually benchmarks better than the Lexar Professional 2000x 128GB UHS-II SDXC while being cheaper. Tbh, its a V90 beast. For ergonomics, the Lensmate Fujifilm X-T5 Folding Thumb Rest is way better than fixed ones. It gives more leverage for street shooting without blocking dials. Its pricey, but the build quality is night and day.
Go for the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4136 to save cash. Its solid. Also, the Sony TOUGH-M Series SDXC UHS-II 128GB V60 is plenty fast without breaking the bank.
Congrats on the X-T5! Since that 40MP sensor creates huge files, I would definitely stick with high-quality cards. I use the SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB UHS-II SDXC because it is super reliable for street shooting. To help with the grip, the Fujifilm MHG-XT5 Metal Hand Grip is pricey but solid and worth it for the extra security. Dont go cheap on the basics, it is not worth the risk.
Honestly, I'd just go with any high-speed cards from ProGrade. Reliability is the big thing when youre shooting 40MP, and they have a great reputation for safety. For the screen, just grab any glass protector from a brand like ULBORS. Also, any thumb rest from Haoge will do the trick. It makes a huge difference and you wont feel like youre gonna drop it.
I was just thinking about my first month with the X-T5 and how much my hand used to ache after a long day of street shooting before I finally added a grip! It was honestly a game changer for me. Being a purist about keeping the camera small is nice until your fingers start cramping lol. After one particularly long weekend, I realized my hands just needed that extra surface area to grab onto. Getting a generic metal grip from a brand like JJC turned out to be fantastic. It fits so well and makes the whole setup feel way more balanced! The storage situation is a bit stressful at first, I totally get the anxiety. Those 40MP files eat up space so fast it is crazy. Eventually I just bit the bullet and grabbed some high-speed cards from SanDisk. You really cant go wrong with their faster tiers, it makes the playback and buffer clear so much quicker. Its such a relief not having to wait for the camera to catch up! For the screen, honestly, just get any generic glass protector you find. Ive used several different ones and they all do the trick perfectly fine. Youre gonna have so much fun with this thing, its such an amazing camera!
