Hey everyone! I just picked up a Panasonic S1 II and I'm looking to upgrade from the built-in mic for video work. I mainly shoot interviews, vlogs, and some documentary-style content. My budget is around $200-400. I've been considering the Rode VideoMic Pro Plus and Audio-Technica AT875R, but I'm open to other suggestions.
What are your experiences with external mics on the S1 II? Any compatibility issues I should know about? Also wondering if anyone has tried wireless systems like the Rode Wireless GO II with this camera. Thanks in advance!
Like someone mentioned the wireless kits, they can be super handy for vlogs but you gotta be careful for doc work. I once lost half an interview because my transmitter hit some interference... total nightmare. If you really want to step up the audio on your S1 II, you might want to consider the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter. It gives you real XLR inputs and physical dials which are way safer than digging through menus. I usually run the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Audio-Technica+AT875R&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Audio-Technica AT875R shotgun with it. If that setup is too expensive new, you can usually find the adapter used for a decent price. Otherwise, I would suggest the Rode VideoMic NTG. Its basically a hybrid that works via USB or 3.5mm and sounds way better than the older Pro Plus model. Just make sure to watch your levels in the red tho... the preamps on these cameras can get noisy if you push the digital gain too hard.
