I recently upgraded to the Panasonic Lumix S5II for an upcoming trip, and I’m super excited to test out that new phase-detect autofocus! However, coming from a smaller system, I'm realizing I need to optimize my gear bag. I'm looking for accessories that complement the S5II specifically—maybe a comfortable strap that handles the weight well or a compact L-mount lens recommendation for street photography. I’m also a bit worried about battery life while shooting 4K video all day. Are there any specific USB-C power banks or PD chargers that work best with this body? What are your top must-have travel accessories to keep the kit portable yet powerful?
In my experience, moving to a full-frame setup like the S5II is a total game changer but man, the weight can really sneak up on you if youre coming from a smaller system! Over the years I've realized that safety-first is the only way to go so you dont end up with a broken lens on the pavement.
For straps, I'd actually suggest looking at the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap. It's thinner and less bulky than the bigger versions but still uses those super secure anchors, making it way easier to pack into a tight gear bag. Now, for lenses, I've tried many and it basically comes down to the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary vs the Panasonic LUMIX S 35mm f/1.8. The Sigma is incredibly compact and feels "pro" with that metal aperture ring, but the Lumix 35mm is better for video work cuz of the minimal focus breathing. Honestly?? I'd grab the Sigma for travel just to keep the kit low-profile for street shooting.
About the power issue... seriously, dont skimp here. I once fried a battery port using a cheap cable from an airport kiosk—it was such a nightmare and basically ruined my trip. For the S5II, you want a reliable PD source. I highkey recommend the Ugreen Nexode 145W Power Bank 25000mAh over some of the generic brands because it actually hits the power delivery specs needed to charge while shooting 4K. Pair it with a Satechi 100W USB-C PD Compact GaN Charger and you're golden. Just make sure ur using a high-quality cable too!! gl with the new rig!
i guess:
- Peak Design Slide Camera Strap (safe)
- Panasonic LUMIX S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 (versatile) vs Panasonic LUMIX S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 (compact)
- Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K) (reliable)
dont risk ur gear!!
Great info, saved!

Basically, dont use cheap chargers or cables!! I went through this last year and honestly, off-brand stuff ruined my battery health... such a disappointing outcome when ur trying to save cash tho.
