honestly im just fed up with my current monitor setup on my Panasonic S5II it keeps dropping the signal mid-shoot and im just totally done with it. my logic was that any cheap 7 inch screen would work fine but the lag is actually insane when im trying to pull focus for these client videos. so I was thinking about getting an Atomos Ninja but then I read some people have major issues with the HDMI handshake on S series bodies and now im just stuck. I have a big project in two weeks here in Seattle and a 500 dollar budget to fix this mess. which brands actually play nice with Panasonic without glitching out every five minutes...
> I was thinking about getting an Atomos Ninja but then I read some people have major issues with the HDMI handshake Totally get the frustration. Last year I wasted money on a random brand that flickered constantly... ended up getting the Portkeys LH5P II 5.5 Inch 2200nit Monitor for my S5II and its been solid. Zero lag issues. The screen gets a bit hot tho, but it fits your budget and the camera control is a game changer. Better than fighting with Ninja cables.
@Reply #3 - good point! Adding to that, you might want to consider the SmallHD Action 5 5.5 Inch Monitor because its internal hardware handles the S5II signal much more reliably. Be careful with your cable choice tho. Most handshake errors actually stem from signal degradation, so make sure to use a high-spec cable like the Kondor Blue Braided HDMI 2.0 4K 60Hz Cable to ensure a consistent 18Gbps connection for client work.
Jumping in here... had better luck with these:
Been using this for years, no complaints
