So I finally made the jump over to the Lumix S5II after being a Canon guy for like a decade and man the autofocus is a totally different beast but I'm struggling with the glass situation. I've always used Sigma Art on my old 5D but looking at the L-mount catalog there are just so many versions of the same focal lengths now. I've got a wedding in Portland next month and need to fill out my kit but I dont want to buy the wrong ones since some older designs have way more focus breathing than the newer DN stuff. Budget is around 2k for now. If you were building an L-mount kit from scratch today which Sigma Arts are the absolute essentials?

Late to the party but I've been shooting L-mount for a while now and it's been fantastic! Since you're heading to Portland, you definitely need to think about reliability and weather sealing. The rain there is brutal. I highly recommend starting with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art II. This is the revised version and it's significantly better for video and fast-paced weddings because the focus breathing is minimal. Plus, the dust and splash resistance is a huge safety factor when you're outdoors. Another essential is the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art. It's incredibly sharp and the build quality is tank-like. These newer DN lenses are designed for mirrorless, so you wont deal with the AF hunting issues from adapted glass. Getting that native communication between the lens and the S5II is vital for hitting focus every single time during the ceremony. These two will cover almost everything safely!

Stick to the DG DN lineup if you want to avoid those older, bulkier DSLR designs. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is a solid workhorse for the S5II. If you have cash left, get the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art. Those two cover most wedding scenarios. The DN lenses are way better for video too because theyve suppressed the focus breathing issues found in the older Art glass.
