Are there any recommended thumb grips for the Leica Q3?

Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the Leica Q3 recently, and man, what an incredible piece of gear. The image quality and that autofocus improvement are everything I hoped for. However, I’ve noticed that while the camera looks stunning, it feels a bit 'slick' in my hand during long street sessions. I find myself gripping it a little too tightly because I’m paranoid about it slipping, especially when I’m trying to shoot one-handed.

I’m looking for a solid thumb grip (or thumb support) to add that extra bit of security and ergonomic comfort. I’ve been looking at the official Leica Thumb Support for the Q3, but it’s quite a heavy investment at over $200. I’m wondering if the build quality and the way it integrates with the camera's design truly justify that price tag. Does it feel like a seamless part of the body, or is it just an overpriced piece of aluminum?

I’ve also seen a few third-party options from brands like Haoge and Match Technical. My main concern with the third-party stuff is the fit—I’ve had grips on other cameras that had a tiny bit of 'play' or wiggle in the hot shoe, which drives me crazy. Also, with the Q3’s updated button layout on the back compared to the Q2, I want to make sure I’m not going to be blocking any of the new programmable buttons or making the rear dial hard to reach. I really value being able to quickly adjust my exposure compensation without the grip getting in the way.

For those of you who have been using the Q3 for a while now, what are you using to improve the handling? Are you sticking with the official Leica accessory, or have you found a third-party gem that fits perfectly and matches the finish of the black paint? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ergonomics and if it actually makes a difference in steadying your shots at slower shutter speeds. Which specific thumb grip would you recommend for the best balance of comfort, access to controls, and value?

sooo... i had issues with wiggle on cheap ones. unfortunately wasted money before finding the JJC TA-Q3 Thumb Up Grip... it fits snug without that $200 leica tax, anyway solid $40 value tbh

For your situation, I think the LIM'S Design Leica Q3 Thumb Support is the safest bet. Ngl, it feels rock solid so you can stop stressing about drops during long sessions!!

So, i totally get the anxiety of holding such a slick camera. Ngl, I was terrified of dropping mine during the first week!! For your situation, I would suggest looking at the JJC TA-Q3 Thumbs Up Grip for Leica Q3. It usually costs around $16 to $22 on most sites, which is basically a steal compared to the official version. Honestly, for a piece of aluminum, paying over $200 feels a bit excessive even if it’s got the branding.

Since youre worried about the "play" or wiggle in the hot shoe (which drives me crazy too), I have a quick tip. I used a tiny sliver of electrical tape on the bottom of the grip's foot. It tightened the fit perfectly and adds a layer of protection so you dont scratch the hot shoe. I'm pretty cautious with my gear, so that extra bit of friction makes it feel way more secure when shooting one-handed.

If you want something more premium than the budget JJC but still want to save cash, the IDS Works Foldable Thumb Grip for Leica Q3 is a great middle ground at about $85. It's really well-machined and doesn't block the rear dial or those new programmable buttons. I'm super happy with how it handles; it makes one-handed shooting feel much safer without breaking the bank. Just make sure to still use a strap, cuz I'm always worried about accidental bumps!! gl!
