I’m putting together a simple everyday travel kit for my Leica M and want a few accessories that actually make a difference (not just more stuff). I’ll be walking all day and shooting street + interiors, usually with a 35mm. Any must-have strap, compact pouch, and spare-battery/memory solutions you swear by for travel shooting?
Sooo I saw this earlier but just now replying — for travel Leica M days, I’d keep it cheap + reliable and avoid “fancy” stuff that fails.
- Strap: OP/TECH USA Super Classic Strap (Black) is like $15–$25, comfy all-day, and the neoprene actually saves your neck. If you want slimmer, Domke Gripper Strap 1.5 inch (Black) is ~$20–$30 and won’t slide off jackets.
- Pouch: Think Tank Photo Pixel Pocket Rocket (SD) (~$15) or Lowepro GearUp Pouch Mini (Gray) (~$20). Zips, no bulk.
- Battery/cards: 2 batteries max, and a hard case like Pelican 0915 SD Card Case (Black) (~$20) so cards don’t get bent. Also, rotate cards and don’t “one big card” it… safer if one dies.
Honestly this setup just works, no drama. cheers
Seconding the “keep it simple” vibe. Strap: Peak Design Leash Camera Strap vs Leica Carrying Strap (Black) 18776 (Leash comfy/cheap; Leica looks nicer but $$$). Pouch: Tenba Tools Reload Battery Pouch 1 vs Think Tank Photo Battery Holder 2—both solid, just dont overpack.
For your situation, I’d keep it stupid-simple: a slim cross-body strap (leather looks nice but nylon/webbing dries fast) + a tiny zip pouch for a spare battery/card + a couple labeled card sleeves. I’m not 100% sure it’s “best” for everyone, but after years of walking cities all day, the biggest win is keeping weight off your neck and having ONE pocket that always has power/storage. Also, bring a microfiber cloth… seriously!
