Best everyday strap for Leica M cameras?

I’m looking for an everyday strap for my Leica M that’s comfortable for long walks but doesn’t get in the way when shooting. Prefer something low-profile (no big logos), secure enough for a heavier M + 35mm, and not too stiff on a jacket. Any specific strap models/materials you’d recommend for daily use?

For your situation, I’d suggest a simple 10mm-ish nylon strap with leather ends. I’ve carried an M + 35 for long walks and the one I keep coming back to is Artisan & Artist ACAM-102N Silk Camera Strap (usually like $90–$120). It’s low-key (no giant branding), drapes nicely over a jacket, and doesn’t feel stiff or “grabby.” If you want even more security, Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap (~$75) is solid, but be careful with the quick-connects—make sure they’re fully seated and check them now and then.

Also, tiny thing: I always add small split-rings or strap protectors at the lugs so the strap hardware never rubs the body. Cheers

+1 on the thin strap idea—ngl a Leica Leather Carrying Strap (14312) or Tap & Dye Classic Camera Strap (Slim) stays lowkey, drapes on jackets, and the leather ends lock into M lugs better than bulky webbing imo.

Oh man, same rabbit hole. I went through this last year with my M + 35 and I was being super paranoid about safety (cuz… unfortunately I had a strap scare).

Long story short: I started with a thin “nice” leather strap and it looked great, but after a few long walks the leather got kinda slick on my jacket and the camera would slowly creep forward when I leaned over. One day the split ring was half-open (idk how, maybe it twisted while walking?) and I caught it just in time. Not fun.

What I learned / what I pay attention to now (not telling you what to buy, just what bit me):
- **Attachment hardware**: I literally check split rings + any clips every few outings. The “silent” loosening is real.
- **Lug protection**: anything rubbing metal-on-metal annoyed me AND made me nervous about wear.
- **Material on jackets**: softer woven straps “grab” fabric better; some smooth leathers slide more than you’d expect.
- **Stiffness**: a strap that’s stiff when new was *awful* with a coat… it kept fighting the way I wanted to bring the camera up.

I ended up with a low-profile woven setup + backup tether point in my bag on travel days. Overkill maybe, but I sleep better lol. good luck tho!

I’m still pretty new to the M system, but ngl, I really disagree with spending almost $100 on a strap just because it has a name on it. Tbh, I was worried about the same safety things mentioned above, so I just decided to make my own "rugged" version instead of buying a professional service or branded strap. It’s way cheaper and feels more secure imo. Here’s what I used to make a super simple, low-profile one:
- About 4-5 feet of Sterling 7mm Accessory Cord or similar climbing rope
- Two Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Split Rings (the ones from the hardware store feel way tighter than the jewelry ones)
- Some Rubber O-rings to protect the camera body from scratches It’s not as "elegant" as the silk ones, but it’s sooooo much stronger and doesn't scream "expensive camera" when you're out walking. Plus, it’s not stiff at all on a jacket. Is it weird to prefer the DIY stuff over the fancy leather?
