Hey everyone, super excited about the D-Lux 8! I'm already thinking about getting a case for it, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the options. Anyone have recommendations? I'm mostly looking for something that offers good protection without adding too much bulk.

Ideally, I'd love a half-case that still allows easy access to the battery and SD card. Leather would be a plus! I've seen a few online, but it's hard to tell which ones are actually good quality and a proper fit. Has anyone already purchased a case for their D-Lux 8 (or a similar model) and can share their experience? What are some brands or specific models I should be looking at? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just catching up on this thread. Unfortunately, my long-term experience with specialized cases for this series has been quite disappointing and not as good as expected from a technical perspective.

  • Chemical outgassing from interior adhesives
  • Material fatigue in the strap lugs after heavy use
  • Dimensional variance that eventually obstructed the lens barrel It actually reminds me of an ordeal I had with my old Typ 109. I had commissioned a bespoke case from a boutique artisan, providing specific CAD measurements for the battery door clearance and the exact torque specs for the mounting screw. It was a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, but after two weeks, I realized the tanning salts in the leather were reacting with the magnesium alloy frame. I ended up spending my entire vacation monitoring the pH levels with a testing kit instead of shooting. By the time I decided it was safe, I had basically moved on to a different body anyway. Just a complete technical headache...

Just saw this thread and man, I feel the frustration. Honestly, the struggle is real whenever a new model like the D-Lux 8 hits. Over the years, I've tried many different setups, and it's just exhausting how third-party manufacturers ignore the actual technical tolerances. It drives me crazy when a case is off by even a millimeter because it starts gunking up the control ring or obstructing the lens extension. In my experience, you have to be so careful with those generic fits. I've spent way too much time with my own hobby knives trying to shave down leather or adjust cutouts because the factory couldn't align the SD card slot properly. It is honestly such a headache. Plus, the heat dissipation is a massive concern that nobody talks about... if the case is too snug, you're basically baking the sensor during long shoots. I'm just so tired of seeing cases that trap moisture against the finish. Just really watch out for anything that doesnt respect the mechanical movement of the camera body. It's a total minefield out there.

I've been doing a ton of research online since I'm also looking for one, and it's honestly a bit overwhelming lol. Ngl, there aren't that many D-Lux 8 specific cases out yet besides the super expensive ones, so I've been comparing the main brands I can find. Here is what my "market research" has turned up so far: * Leica D-Lux 8 Leather Protector: This is the official one. It looks amazing and is guaranteed to fit, but it's so pricey! You're basically paying for the brand name, which is what I'm worried about. * TP Original Leather Half Case: I saw this on a few enthusiast sites. It's a lot cheaper than the official Leica one but still real leather. It has that battery/SD card access door you mentioned, which seems super handy for real-world use. * Lim's Design Leather Half Case: These are usually top-tier. They often have a metal base which is cool for extra protection, but I mean... it might make the camera feel a bit heavier? I'm still trying to figure out if the cheaper third-party ones are actually good quality or if they'll just feel like plastic. It’s hard to tell from just photos, you know? Which one are you leaning towards?

Hey there! I totally get the case dilemma. I've been using a generic leather half-case from eBay on my older D-Lux (Typ 109) for years. Honestly, it's held up great! Cost me like $25. Be careful with super expensive 'Leica' branded ones – sometimes you're just paying for the name. Make sure the battery/SD card access is good. I would suggest checking out some generic options first before splurging. You might be surprised! Hope this helps!

Hey! While half-cases are cool, consider a form-fitting silicone skin. I used one on my Ricoh GRIII – adds grip and protects from scratches without bulk. Easy access to everything, plus they're cheap to replace! Might be worth a look.

Hey there! I totally get wanting to protect your new D-Lux 8... it's an investment! While those leather half-cases look amazing, and silicone skins are super practical, I think it's also worth considering the *long-term cost* and what kind of protection you *really* need.

From what I know, those fancy leather cases can be pricey – sometimes over $100! And while they look great, they might not offer the best protection against a serious drop. Silicone skins are cheaper but mainly guard against scratches.

I would suggest thinking about a padded pouch or small bag instead. You can find really nice ones from brands like Peak Design or Domke for around $30-$60. They might not be as stylish as a half-case, but they'll offer better overall protection *and* often have extra pockets for batteries or SD cards. Plus, you can easily swap them between cameras if you upgrade later!

Also, be careful when buying generic leather cases online. Make sure to check the reviews carefully and pay attention to the stitching and leather quality. Some of them can fall apart pretty quickly. You might want to consider a screen protector too – that's often overlooked but can save you from scratches on the LCD.

Ultimately, it depends on your budget and how you plan to use the camera. If you're mostly concerned about aesthetics, then a leather half-case might be worth it. But if you want the best protection for your money, I'd lean towards a padded pouch. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask questions.
