Hey everyone,
Just got my hands on the new Leica D-Lux 8! Super excited to start using it, but I'm a bit unsure about which SD card to get. I know the camera is pretty new, so info is a bit scarce.
I'm planning on shooting a mix of photos and some 4K video. I'd really like to avoid any issues with buffering or slow write speeds, especially when recording video. I've seen some articles mentioning UHS-I vs UHS-II, and I'm a little confused about whether UHS-II is actually worth it for this camera, or if it even supports the faster speeds. Also, what's a good minimum capacity to aim for? I was thinking 128GB, but maybe that's overkill?
Anyone have any recommendations for specific SD cards that work flawlessly with the D-Lux 8 and can handle 4K recording without a hitch? What speed class would you recommend to avoid any problems? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Based on the official specs, the D-Lux 8 supports SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-II) memory cards and is backwards compatible with UHS-I cards. I'd personally recommend going with UHS-II if your budget allows - the faster write speeds really make a difference when shooting burst mode or 4K video. For 4K video at 100 Mbps, you'll want at least V30/U3 rating, though V60 or V90 will run cooler and transfer files faster. I'm using a SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II 128GB and it's been flawless.
I use Lexar 2000X Professional UHS-II V90 SD card. Works well and no problems.
Honestly, unless you're doing a lot of video work, UHS-I cards work perfectly fine and will save you quite a bit of money. I've been using a basic SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB UHS-I card for months with no issues shooting stills. The camera handles it just fine and I haven't noticed any performance problems. Save the money for a nice strap or extra battery instead!
Works great for me
