Hey everyone! I finally took the plunge and picked up a Leica M11, and man, this thing is a work of art. To keep it looking pristine and add a bit more grip, I’m looking for some high-quality leather half-cases and matching straps. I’ve been browsing online, but it’s tough to tell what’s actually worth the investment versus what’s just overpriced branding.
Specifically, I'm looking for a case that offers full access to the battery and the USB-C port at the bottom. Since the M11 doesn’t have a baseplate, I really don’t want to be unscrewing a case every time I need to charge it or pull the SD card. I’ve seen some beautiful work from Arte di Mano and Oberwerth, but I’m curious if anyone has hands-on experience with them? Also, I’m undecided on the strap—should I go for a traditional neck strap or a wrist strap for more street-style shooting? Comfort is a big factor for me since I’m usually out walking for hours.
What are you guys using on your M11 setups? Are there any boutique leather makers I’m missing that offer that perfect balance of protection and aesthetics without being insanely bulky?
Before I give advice, what's ur heaviest lens? After years of shooting, I've seen straps like Artisan & Artist ACAM-280 fail — it's so disappointing — and for an M11, safety is priority #1. tbh.
In my experience, the M11 is a total beast, but yeah, finding a case that doesnt block that bottom port is huge. I honestly went through a couple of options before landing on something I was satisfied with. For your situation, I would suggest looking at the Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 with Battery Door because it has a clever magnetic flap that gives you full access to the battery and USB-C without ever taking the case off. I’ve been using that one for a few months and the fit is perfect. It adds just enough grip without making the camera feel bulky like some of the cheaper Amazon ones do. If you want to spend the extra cash, the Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M11 Open Bottom is basically the gold standard for aesthetics, but it’s highkey expensive—usually north of $450. Here’s a quick breakdown of what works well: - Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 with Battery Door - Best balance of price (around $280) and utility with the magnetic flap.
- TP Original Leather Half Case for Leica M11 - A great budget pick (under $70) if you want real leather with a bottom opening but dont want to pay the "Leica tax."
- Rock n Roll M-System Leather Camera Strap - Seriously the most comfortable strap for long walks because it has a bit of stretch. Regarding the strap—tbh, I’d go with a neck strap if youre out for hours. I tried the wrist strap thing for a while but my hand would literally cramp up after a few miles. A good leather neck strap lets you go hands-free when you need to, which is a life saver. Anyway, hope that helps you narrow it down! Cheers 👍
Yo, congrats on the M11! It's a gorgeous camera, but honestly, some of those boutique prices are just painful. I've tried the high-end stuff before, but the price-to-utility ratio is kinda frustrating. I actually had issues with some expensive cases stretching out over time, right? You might find this useful—check out Kaza Deluxe M11 Leather Half Case. It's got that open-bottom access you're looking for so charging is a breeze, but it's way more cost-effective than the brands mentioned earlier. For straps, I've found leather can be too stiff for long walks. Here are some practical resources/options:
* Artisan & Artist ACAM-102 Cotton Strap - Super soft on the neck and way better for all-day comfort than thick leather tho.
* TP Original M11 Leather Case - Another solid budget option with great USB-C access. Basically, you don't need to spend $600 just for protection, you know? gl!

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
Just saw this thread and felt like I should weigh in. I've spent way too much time obsessing over the exact fit of leather on my M bodies. Last year I actually tried to customize a shell because the big brands felt way too bulky for my grip. You gotta be careful with how the leather is tanned tho—some cheaper chrome-tanned stuff can actually react with the finish if any moisture gets trapped against the body. I always stick to veg-tanned now. I ended up trying the Angelo Pelle Half Case for Leica M11 and it is gorgeous, but I was still cautious about the USB clearance. I actually took a precision hobby knife to the bottom of mine to widen the port hole just a tiny bit. Most cables with a thick plastic housing wont click in all the way unless the cutout is perfect. If it doesn't click, you risk it falling out mid-transfer which is a nightmare during a shoot. For the strap, I'm super paranoid about the metal rings scratching the lugs, so I ended up making some tiny leather guards myself from some scraps. If you dont want to go the DIY route, maybe look at the Tap & Dye Legacy Camera Strap. Just make sure to get the version with the built-in bumper flaps. I've seen too many M11s with circular scars around the lugs already and tbh it totally ruins the aesthetic.
