i am so hyped i finally got my Q3 but honestly i am fed up with how slippery this thing is. My logic was to get the official grip but it's backordered everywhere and i leave for Italy in ten days.

been looking at Lim's cases or Match Technical but are they actually any good?

Saw this today and wanted to mention some budget options. Be careful spending $200 on boutique grips when you have Italy coming up! I would suggest:

To add to the point above: i totally get the anxiety about the Q3 being a slippery little soap bar, especially with a big trip coming up. I was in a similar spot before a trip to Greece last year and decided to skip the metal grips entirely for safety reasons. Honestly, I have been so satisfied with a high-quality leather half case. Metal is great until your hands get a bit sweaty in the Mediterranean sun, then it is back to being slick. Leather just gets better with age and stays tacky in your palm. I ended up going with a setup that hasnt let me down:

  • Oberwerth Half Case for Leica Q3 with Built-in Grip and Battery Access
  • Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Black Basically, the leather adds just enough bulk so your hand actually has something to squeeze. It also protects the bottom of the camera when youre setting it down on those rough stone tables at cafes in Italy. I have no complaints at all about the build quality... it feels like it is actually part of the camera rather than an afterthought. When I was walking through the crowded streets of Oia, I felt way more confident knowing the camera was tethered and the leather grip was solid. If youre worried about the camera sliding out of your hand while taking a shot over a bridge, this is the way to go. Its all about that extra friction. Plus it looks killer without adding too much weight to your bag.

Congrats on the Q3, honestly such a killer camera but yeah... holding it can feel like holding a wet piece of marble. Italy is gonna be amazing for photos tho! Those brands you mentioned are definitely solid options that people swear by, but you might want to consider how they change the ergonomics. Before you rush into buying something just because its in stock, i would suggest being a bit careful about the added weight. Are you mostly looking for something that just helps with the grip while you're shooting, or do you need a full case that protects the bottom when you set it down on stone cafe tables? Also, do you usually use a neck strap or a wrist strap? Some of those setups dont play nice together and the last thing you want is a clunky setup while you're walking miles through Rome.
