I just finally pulled the trigger on a brand new Leica M11, and man, it feels incredible in the hand. Since this is a pretty significant investment for me, I want to make sure I’m setting it up right from day one. I’ve been browsing around online, but the sheer volume of options for grips, cases, and straps is honestly a bit overwhelming.
I'm particularly curious about ergonomics. I've heard mixed reviews on whether a thumb grip is essential for the M11 or if it just gets in the way of the dials. Also, since this model doesn’t have a traditional bottom plate like the older M-bodies, are you guys still using half-cases, or does that just make accessing the battery and USB-C port a total pain? I’m also looking for a solid neck strap recommendation—something high-quality that’s comfortable for long street sessions but doesn’t look too bulky or flashy.
I’ve looked into the official Leica accessories, but I’m wondering if there are third-party brands like Match Technical or Arte di Mano that you think are worth the premium. For those of you who have been shooting with the M11 for a while, what are the absolute must-have accessories that actually improved your shooting experience or helped protect the body?
yo, congrats on the M11! i've been shooting M bodies for like a decade now and the M11 is such a huge leap. honestly, for ergonomics, a thumb grip is basically mandatory imo if u want that secure feel. Here's what I recommend: 1. Leica Thumb Support M11 (Black) vs Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX: The official Leica one is great cuz the finish matches perfectly, but the Match Technical version actually feels a bit more ergonomic for long street sessions. Match Technical can be a bit tight near the dial tho, but it's worth it for the grip.
2. Arte di Mano Comodo Neck Strap: seriously, this is the best for comfort. It looks classy but lowkey, and the leather is basically butter. anyway... dont bother with a half-case. it makes the battery/USB access a total pain. just grab the Leica Screen Protector for M11 and ur good to go. gl! 👍
Totally agree with the above! Safety first. To prevent scratches on the finish, maybe try the Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M11? The fitment specs are great for keeping debris out.
This^ Also wanted to add, totally agree on the thumb grip. I’ve shot M for years and unfortunately, the official cases are kinda a pain for charging. I swapped to the Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 and it's way better cuz it has a magnetic flap for the USB-C access. Also, the Artisan & Artist ACAM-100A Cotton Strap is lowkey great for street—it's comfy and doesnt look flashy at all. gl!
Works great for me
