Ive been shooting Leica for a decade, mostly M bodies, but I finally picked up a Q3 and the ergonomics are stressing me out. My thumb keeps slipping and I'm terrified of dropping it during a street shoot in Brooklyn next weekend. I usually swear by Match Technical but I heard the Q3 button layout makes some grips super awkward to use.
Is the official Leica one actually the most comfortable or is something like Lim's better for long days? I just need it to feel secure...
After years with Ms, I really love the SquareHood Leica Q3 Thumb Grip Aluminum. It doesnt block the dial. Tip: check the screw tightness occasionally to keep everything secure on the street.
In my experience, the IDS Works Leica Q3 Thumb Grip Aluminum is the most methodical design for the Q3 layout. It specifically addresses the dial clearance issues found in older grips. The build quality is extremely solid and provides that secure hook feel you need for street shooting. Tip: make sure it is seated fully in the hot shoe before tightening to ensure the dial remains completely unobstructed.
I tested a couple and the Lim's Design Aluminum Thumb Support for Leica Q3 is probably your best bet. It gives a solid hold and doesnt block the dial.
Unfortunately, the classic brass grips werent as good as expected. I had issues hitting the dial, so the Haoge THB-Q3B Metal Thumb Grip is a better, solid aluminum alternative tho...
