Which thumb grips provide the most ergonomic feel for Leica M cameras?

Hey everyone! I’ve been shooting with my Leica M10 for a few months now, and while I love the rangefinder experience, my hand starts cramping after an hour or two of street photography. I’m looking to add a thumb grip to improve the ergonomics and get a more secure hold, but I'm torn between the options. I’ve looked at the official Leica brand grip, but it’s quite an investment. Has anyone compared it to the Match Technical Thumbs Up or the more budget-friendly Haoge versions? I’m particularly curious about the 'purchase' they provide and if any of them interfere with the shutter speed dial or feel too loose in the hot shoe. Which specific model do you find offers the most natural, ergonomic feel for long shooting sessions?

I've been shooting with my M10 for years and honestly, a thumb grip is basically mandatory for street photography. For your situation, I would suggest looking at the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX. In my experience, it provides the most ergonomic 'purchase' because of the specific way it’s angled—it feels way more natural than the official Leica Thumb Support M10 (19504) which I found a bit too stiff and upright, if that makes sense? The Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX fits the hot shoe perfectly and doesn't wiggle at all. I was worried it might block the shutter speed dial, but it’s designed with a cutout so you can still flip it with your index finger no problem. If you're looking to save some cash, the Haoge THB-M10B Thumb Up Grip is a reallyyy solid budget pick. It’s well-made, tho the brass doesn't feel quite as 'dense' as the Match Technical one. I actually used the Haoge for a few months before upgrading and it worked well, but the Match Technical just feels more 'one' with the camera body. Seriously, it makes a HUGE difference for those 3-4 hour walks. My hand doesn't cramp up anymore cuz the weight is distributed much better. GL with the choice, you’re gonna love the M10 even more once it’s properly gripped! peace

Quick question - are you using a half-case or just the bare body? Before I suggest something like the Fotasy Metal Thumb Up Grip for Leica M10, I wanna know cuz the height of the grip arm changes the torque on the hot shoe. I'm still learning the specs, but I'm super cautious about putting pressure on those electronics. TBH, your hand size makes a huge difference for that 'purchase' feel!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly tho, I'm always sooo worried about these things scratching the hot shoe or putting too much pressure on the contacts. I tried the JJC TA-M10 Thumb Grip for Leica M10 and it feels really natural. Just make sure it doesnt wobble too much because that torque can actually damage the camera mount over time. Safety first tho, right? gl

Saw this earlier and wanted to chime in on the technical side. If you're looking for a budget-friendly alternative that doesn't compromise on precision, you might want to consider the SmallRig Thumb Grip for Leica M10 2417. It is machined from a high-grade 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, which offers a decent strength-to-weight ratio without putting excessive stress on the hot shoe frame. Be careful with the ultra-cheap knockoffs tho. I've seen some that lack proper finishing on the underside, which can lead to electrolytic corrosion if moisture gets trapped between the grip and the brass plate. I would suggest the Lims Thumb Grip for Leica M10 as a more methodical choice. It includes a tiny rubber damper to absorb the torque when you're actually gripping the camera tightly. This protects the hot shoe electronics from lateral pressure. Make sure to check the fitment immediately; it should be snug but never forced. Tbh, spending slightly more on a mid-tier grip like the Lims is a better investment than risking a costly repair for a damaged hot shoe. Just make sure it dont block the dial for you.

yo, i started with a generic plastic grip and it literally wobbled so much it almost fell off. lesson learned! i'd suggest the Haoge THB-M10B Thumb Grip for Leica M10. it’s solid aluminum and actually fits the M10 tighter than expected. the design clears the shutter speed dial perfectly and gives a great ergonomic purchase for street sessions. honestly, dont overpay for the brand name here. gl!
