ive been shooting with my lumix g85 for ages mostly using the kit zoom but my sisters wedding is literally next weekend and i realized the church is gonna be way too dark for my 3.5-5.6 glass. i need something fast like f1.7 or f1.8 but i just blew most of my savings on the travel costs to get to seattle for it so i really can only spend like $150 max right now... im stressing out because i know i need that shallow depth of field for the portraits but im torn between the panasonic 25mm 1.7 or maybe a used olympus 45mm if i can find one cheap? is there something even cheaper that doesn't suck or should i just stick to one of those?

Just saw this. Reminds me of a wedding where my kit lens was useless in a dark church... I grabbed the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f1.7 ASPH for the fast aperture and reliability. Its a solid 50mm equivalent. How far from the altar are you sitting tho? If you need reach, look for a used Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f1.8 for tighter shots. TL;DR: Panasonic 25mm is the safest bet.

Just saw this and honestly you can totally pull this off on a budget! I remember my first wedding shoot where I had like fifty bucks to my name and I grabbed a manual lens... it was terrifying but the photos had so much character! If youre willing to go used or try manual focus, you can get some insane results for under $100. Check these out:

  • Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Micro Four Thirds
  • This one is a absolute beast! If you find it used for around $150, its easily the sharpest lens for the price and that f1.4 is a lifesaver in dark churches. Love the bokeh on this one!
  • 7Artisans 35mm f1.2 Large Aperture for MFT
  • This lens is tiny and super cheap! Its manual focus but that f1.2 is amazing for portraits and lets in so much light.
  • Yi 42.5mm f1.8 Portrait Lens for MFT
  • If you can find one of these online, they are hidden gems. Super light and the autofocus is actually pretty decent for a budget lens. Dont stress too much! Just keep your shutter speed up and youll do great! If you need more tips on how to handle the manual focus just ask!
