Are limited-time lightning deals on Amazon usually fake or real?

So I've been eyeing this ultrawide monitor for my home office setup because my current one has these weird dead pixels and I have about $350 to spend before I start feeling guilty lol. I saw a lightning deal today that said it was 40% off but honestly I'm skeptical. I did some digging and checked one of those price tracker sites like CamelCamelCamel and it showed the price actually jumped up by fifty bucks like two weeks ago and now the lightning deal just brings it back down to what it was normally selling for in August.

So I was thinking is this just a common tactic they all use? My logic was that a lightning deal is supposed to be this rare crazy discount but it feels more like a psychological trick to make me click buy before the timer runs out. I read some Reddit threads where people said some deals are legit leftovers they need to clear out of the warehouse but then other people say the original price is totally made up by the third-party seller.

I'm trying to get this monitor shipped to me here in Philly by the weekend so I can finally finish my desk build but I don't want to get ripped off if the price is gonna be the same next Tuesday without the stressful countdown clock. Are these things actually vetted by Amazon or do sellers just get to put whatever numbers they want in that little list price box? Its hard to tell whats a real steal vs just marketing fluff...

Man you hit the nail on the head! Most of those lightning discounts are total marketing fluff to trigger your FOMO. Sellers constantly mess with the MSRP to make a standard price look like a massive steal. Since youre looking at ultrawides, you gotta check the panel tech because sometimes they dump old VA panels with terrible ghosting during these sales! Honestly my biggest tip is to install the Keepa browser extension. Its way more granular than CamelCamelCamel because it shows you the exact lightning deal history and even warehouse deals too. Dont let that timer stress you out tho, if the price history looks fishy, it probably is. Check those nits and refresh rates instead of the discount percentage! I love a good desk build so definitely dont settle for a fake deal just to get it by Saturday.
