Hey everyone,
I'm looking for recommendations on the best flash to use with my Hasselblad X2D II 100C. I'm mainly shooting portraits and some occasional studio work. I've been getting great results with natural light so far, but I really want to start experimenting with flash to add more control and drama to my images, especially when I'm on location and the lighting isn't ideal.
I've been reading about different options, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. I'm particularly interested in flashes that offer good TTL functionality with the X2D, as I'd like to start with something that's relatively easy to use before diving into manual flash settings. Also, recycle time is important to me – I don't want to miss shots waiting for the flash to recharge. I'm not looking for anything crazy expensive, but I'm willing to invest in something that's reliable and will last. I'm currently leaning towards Godox but I'm open to any suggestions.
So, what flash units have you guys had good experiences with on your X2D II 100C, and why do you recommend them? Are there any specific features or brands I should be paying close attention to? I appreciate any insights you can share!
Quick reply while I have a sec. I gotta politely disagree with the V860 recommendation tho. Its a decent flash, but if you're already invested in a Hasselblad system, you'll probably find the light quality and build of those standard rectangular speedlights a bit disappointing for portraits. For real reliability and that pro look without the Profoto price tag, I'd suggest the Godox V1-N Flash for Nikon. Since Hasselblad uses the Nikon TTL protocol, it works like a charm on the X2D. The round head gives a way more natural fall-off for skin tones than the cheaper models. Also, if you're doing location work and need more drama, the Godox AD200Pro TTL Pocket Flash is basically the gold standard for enthusiasts. Its way more consistent for long shoots and the recycle time is great. Youll just need a trigger like the Godox XProII-N TTL Wireless Flash Trigger to get it off-camera. Personally, I wouldnt settle for less than the V1 or AD series if you want it to last.
Hey there!
I'm also relatively new to using flash, but I did a bunch of research before buying one for my X2D. Honestly, I ended up grabbing a Profoto A10. Yeah, it's pricey, I know! But the TTL is fantastic, it's super easy to use, and the recycle time is ridiculously fast.
Before that, I borrowed a friend's Godox V1. It was pretty good, and the price is definitely right, but the Profoto just felt more…polished, I guess? Plus, the magnetic modifiers are a game-changer for me. Have you looked at those at all? Anyway, just my two cents! Hope this helps!
Hey there! While Profoto's amazing, and Godox is a decent option, have you considered used gear? Honestly, you can snag some seriously good deals on high-end flashes that way. I actually picked up a used Broncolor Siros L800 for about half the price of a new Profoto! It might take some digging, but it’s worth it if you're on a budget and still want pro-level performance. Just be sure to check its condition carefully before buying. Good luck!
Hey there!
So, Profoto A10 is great and all, but it's kinda pricey, right? Since you're looking at Godox, I'd say stick with that for now. They offer a lot of bang for your buck.
Specifically, check out the Godox V860III series. The "III" is important because it's their latest version with improvements. They make versions for different camera systems, so make sure you get the one that's TTL compatible with Hasselblad (check the Godox website for the correct version, probably labeled as "H").
I've had issues with other brands' TTL being unreliable, but Godox has been pretty consistent in my experience (not with Hasselblad specifically, but with other cameras). Also, the recycle times on the V860III are pretty quick. Plus, they're usually way cheaper than Profoto – you can often find them for around $250-$300. Worth considering, eh?
Hope this helps!
