Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my vlogging setup and need recommendations for a solid mirrorless camera in the $1500 range. Priority is good autofocus, decent low-light performance, and ideally a flip-out screen for self-recording. Battery life matters too since I shoot longer sessions. Currently considering Sony a6700 and Fuji X-S20. What are your experiences and suggestions?

With $1500 you could even consider the Canon R50 V if you want to save some money - it's a good buy if you're on a budget with its 24.2-megapixel sensor. It can shoot bursts at up to 15 fps in electronic shutter mode, and offers 4K 10-bit video at up to 30p with supersampling and no crop. It has a fully articulating display, and unlike other cameras in this price range, an electronic viewfinder. This leaves you plenty of budget for lenses and accessories!

If you want to stretch that $1500 budget, check out the Fujifilm X-S20 - it takes everything that made the X-S10 one of our favorite vlogging cameras and introduces features that make it feel like a more user-friendly option for fledgling content creators. The well-balanced body sits very comfortably in the hand, while simplified dials on the top plate make it easier to get to grips with what is quite an advanced shooting tool. The X-S20 offers 6K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording, which is close to overkill. Improved in-body image stabilization also worked well in testing. With a bigger battery on-board, this all adds up to a great mirrorless all-rounder.

Saw this earlier and wanted to chime in. Like someone mentioned, the Fuji is a solid pick, but in my experience, you really want something that wont fail you when youre recording solo. Ive tried many cameras over the years and nothing is more frustrating than blurry footage because the focus hunted. Quick question tho... are you doing mostly talking head stuff or are you actually out walking while filming? It really changes which stabilization and lens youll need to stay under budget. If you want reliability, consider these:

  • Sony Alpha 6700
  • Since youre already looking at it, I'll vouch for it. The AI tracking is basically bulletproof and the Z battery lasts forever.
  • Panasonic Lumix S5II
  • If you can find it on sale, the stabilization is way better than Sony for handheld stuff. Id stick to the big names for now. Its safer for finding lenses later and they tend to hold value better if you ever want to trade up. Let me know about the movement thing and I can help you narrow it down!
