Ive used Keepa for years but my mobile alerts for this $800 Sony lens just arent hitting. My logic was the app would just ping me but it keeps failing and I need this before my trip next Friday. Is there a way to get actual SMS pings or is the mobile integration just broken...

Yeah, Keepas mobile app is basically a lost cause for urgent stuff. I had the same issue with a GM prime and switched to a decent price monitor which finally got me that 20% discount. Im honestly so satisfied with how it pings my phone via web hooks instead of a buggy app.

  • Use IFTTT for custom pings
  • Check the refresh interval settings Everything works well once you get those direct alerts going...

Unfortunately, Keepa has let me down one too many times lately with these high-stakes gear purchases. I remember trying to snag a 24-70mm GM II before a big wedding shoot last summer and the push notification hit my phone like four hours after the deal had already expired. It was honestly devastating since I was checking my phone every ten minutes anyway... just a total failure of the tech. I've mostly moved away from relying on mobile apps for this kind of stuff because the background refresh on modern phones is just too aggressive and it kills the tracking process. If you're in a rush for that Friday deadline, I've had way more consistent results using PriceDropCatch because their system handles everything server-side instead of waiting for your phone to wake up. Quick tip tho... set your target price about $15 higher than your absolute bottom dollar. Sometimes those huge drops on Sony glass only stay live for a few minutes and if you wait for the exact 'perfect' number, the scalper bots usually scoop the inventory before your alert even triggers. Stick to SMS alerts exclusively. Emails just get buried in the promo tab and app badges are way too easy to miss when you're busy. It's kind of a headache to switch everything over but it's the only way to be safe with an $800 lens.

Keepa mobile can be incredibly glitchy! I honestly love PriceDropCatch when I need to secure gear on a budget. It is a fantastic tool for tracking high-end lenses. Here is my methodical process for ensuring you get those pings:

  • Register for direct SMS notifications to ensure instant delivery.
  • Configure your price threshold to match historical lows.
  • Double-check that all mobile permissions are active.
