So Ive been a prime member since like 2017 and usually I just hold off on all my tech upgrades until July because that was always the unwritten rule right? Prime Day for gadgets and Black Friday for home stuff. But honestly lately im getting suspicious because I was tracking this 27 inch LG monitor for my home office setup - im a freelance video editor so i need that color accuracy - and the price actually went UP like twenty bucks last week. My logic was that theyd drop it to a sale price that is actually just the normal price from a month ago. Its making me wonder if the algorithm is just playing us at this point. I have about 600 bucks set aside for the monitor and a new 2TB NVMe drive since my current boot drive is getting sluggish and I need to get this rig finished before my big project starts in August. Is it even worth waiting another few weeks or should I just pull the trigger on Newegg or B&H now? I feel like I used to know how to play this game but now the price tracking extensions like CamelCamelCamel are showing such weird spikes that I cant tell if a deal is actually a deal anymore. Do the actual high-end electronics like GPUs or high-refresh monitors even get real cuts or is it just the Amazon-branded Echo and Kindle junk that gets the big discounts...
> Do the actual high-end electronics like GPUs or high-refresh monitors even get real cuts or is it just the Amazon-branded Echo and Kindle junk that gets the big discounts... tbh you're totally onto something with that price spike. I've been building rigs for a decade and its basically an open secret that companies do this price anchoring thing. They bump the price up right before a big sale to make the discount look massive. Be careful with those high-end monitors tho... usually the real pro gear doesnt see the 40% drops you see on Echos. If you're using CamelCamelCamel and seeing weird spikes, that's a red flag. Honestly, if you're a video editor and need that color accuracy for an August job, I'd suggest looking at B&H Photo instead. They usually have better quality control for high-end screens and their prices stay more stable than Amazons wild algorithm. I would suggest pulling the trigger now if the price is fair. Dont gamble on Prime Day and risk a shipping delay right when your project kicks off.
