so I finally pulled the trigger on a Z8 and now my brain is actually melting trying to pick one lens for my trip to Italy next month. my logic was to just grab the 24-120mm f4 S because everyone online says the optics are incredible for that high res sensor but then I keep seeing guys on reddit swearing by the 24-200mm for travel convenience. I'm just so frustrated because I don't want to spend two grand on a body just to put mediocre glass on it if the 24-200 can't keep up with the 45mp but then if I'm in Florence and want a tight shot of some architecture am I gonna regret only having 120mm?
and then someone mentioned the new 28-400mm which sounds like a total beast weight-wise but the range is insane. budget is like $1400 max right now after buying the body which was a huge hit to the savings. I hate making these decisions under a deadline lol. do I go for the S-line quality or the zoom range? I'm mostly doing street stuff and some landscape and I really dont want to be that guy swapping lenses in the middle of a crowded plaza or getting dust on the sensor every five minutes. what are you guys actually using on this thing when you want to travel light...
Honestly, I went through the same stress when I got my Z8. I ended up grabbing the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S and I've been super happy with it. Its basically glued to my camera now. I get the worry about the 120mm range not being enough, but honestly, the trick with that 45mp sensor is that you can crop in quite a bit and still have a crisp photo. I’ve cropped street shots by like 50% and they still look better than what I’d get on a super-zoom. The f/4 is constant too, which is a life saver when the sun starts going down in those narrow Italian streets. Its not as heavy as that 28-400 monster. For the price, it fits your budget and feels like it actually belongs on a high-end body. You wont regret the S-line glass once you see the files on a big screen.
