Whats the best mirrorless camera I can get for under $500? honestly i have no idea where to even start with this stuff and it's all super confusing. i just want something way better than my iphone to take photos of my toddler at the park and maybe some landscape shots when we go to colorado next month for vacation.

is $500 even a realistic budget for this or am i totally dreaming? i keep seeing people talk about bodies and lenses separately and its honestly stressing me out lol. sorry if this is a dumb question i just really dont want to waste my money on the wrong thing...

$500 is tight but totally doable for a starter kit. Tbh, you want a fast autofocus system for toddlers. These are decent options:

  • honestly $500 is the sweet spot for used gear if you know where to look. for toddlers you definitely need phase detection autofocus or you're gonna end up with a bunch of blurry shots of the back of their head. the Canon EOS M50 Mark II 24.1MP with 15-45mm Lens is a strong contender here. its super user friendly and the dual pixel af is actually legit for tracking movement. another decent choice is the Fujifilm X-T200 24.2MP with 15-45mm Lens. it has great colors for those colorado landscapes. quick tip tho... skip the brand new stuff. check out sites like mpb or keh. you can grab a used body and a kit lens easily under your budget and maybe even have enough left for an extra battery. buying a bundle (body + lens) is way less stressful than hunting for them separately.
