I'm trying to film stuff for my new vlog but I'm literally so lost with all the tech specs people keep talking about. I have $1200 and need something by next week for a trip to Austin.

sorry if this is dumb but what's the best mirrorless camera for video that isn't too complicated?

I think the Sony ZV-E10 4K Mirrorless Camera is solid for vlogging.

  • Tbh, I have to respectfully disagree with jumping straight to Sony for a beginner. In my experience, those menus can be a total nightmare when you are actually out in the field trying to film. Over the years, I have seen so many people buy into the hype only to have their camera overheat during a long shoot. If you are going to Austin next week, you need something that stays cool and feels solid in your hand. I have tried many different setups, and I always come back to Panasonic for pure reliability. I would seriously look into the Panasonic LUMIX G95 20.3MP Mirrorless Camera with 12-60mm Lens. It is weather-sealed and the in-body stabilization is way better than the Sony or Canon options mentioned earlier. You can basically walk and talk without it looking like an earthquake. If you want something even more robust, the Panasonic LUMIX GH5 II 4K 60p Mirrorless Camera is a total tank and falls right in your price range if you shop around. Quick tip: Spend a little extra on a fast card like the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card. Cheap cards will cause your video to buffer or just fail mid-recording, which is the last thing you want on a trip. Don't overthink the tech specs too much, just get something that wont break the first time you bump it. Panasonic is just safer for travel, period.

I have to disagree slightly with the idea of spending the whole $1200 on just the camera. Honestly, I think you should look at the Nikon Z 30 DX-Format Mirrorless Vlogger Camera with 16-50mm Lens. Ive been using it for a bit and Im really satisfied with how simple it is. No complaints at all about the build quality, it feels safe and solid in the hand which is a big deal for me. People always forget about the extra costs like spare batteries and a decent mic, so spending the full budget on just a body is a mistake imo. This Nikon is a reliable choice and usually goes for way less, so youll have plenty of cash left over for a Rode VideoMicro II On-camera Shotgun Microphone. It works well without any fuss. Keeping some money in your pocket is always the safer move when starting out.
