I just started doing some freelance personal shopping for a couple of clients here in Chicago and honestly I am so lost with the tech side of things. I spend all day running around different shops and taking photos of cool stuff I find but then when I get home everything is just a big mess in my camera roll. I cant remember which store had which dress or how much anything cost because I forget to take a picture of the tag half the time lol.

Sorry if this is a really basic question but I have no idea where to even start looking for a tool to fix this. Are there any easy apps for categorizing things you find while out shopping? I need something really simple and hopefully cheap or free because my budget is pretty tight right now...

I've been doing similar work for a while now and honestly, I would suggest staying away from those trendy new apps that promise to automate everything. Most are just buggy or try to lock you into a subscription. I've been using Trello for my finds and I am very satisfied with it. It is reliable and hasn't let me down yet. Here are a few cautions based on my experience:

  • Avoid apps that require a constant internet connection. Stores often have dead zones and you will lose your progress.
  • Be careful with apps that do not let you export your data. If they go out of business, you lose your entire inventory list.
  • Dont trust anything that doesnt sync to a desktop version. Checking things on a bigger screen later is vital for accuracy. Trello works well and handles my photos with no complaints. It is simple enough that it doesnt get in the way.

  • Fantastic move! Before I detail why Share Product is an amazing free option:
  • Which mobile OS?
  • Tracking inventory daily?

This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.

I stuck with the basics because I need things to actually work when I'm in the middle of a shop. Some of those specialized apps are way too glitchy for me but I'm very satisfied using simple tools that dont crash.

  • Google Keep Mobile App is basically a lifesaver since you can just snap a photo and add a quick note about the price or store right there.
  • Evernote Free Plan works well if you want to organize things into folders for different clients or styles. I havent had any complaints since switching to this method. It is very reliable and wont cost you anything which is nice when you're just starting out. Just remember to tag your notes by store name as you go so you dont have to guess later... it saves so much time.
