Sorry if this is a super basic question, I really dont know how any of this works. I am looking at getting the Kindle Paperwhite (the 16GB one) on Amazon because I have a big trip coming up in mid-July to visit family in Florida and I want to read on the beach without glare on my phone. My budget is pretty tight, like I really cant spend more than $110 max on this. Right now it is listed for $149.99 which is just too much for me.

I have been checking the page every day for like two weeks and the price hasn't budged at all. So I was thinking, does Amazon have a pattern for when they lower prices? My logic was that maybe it goes on sale for Father's Day or something, but that just passed and nothing happened. I also heard people talk about Prime Day but I dont actually know when that is or if Kindle devices even go on sale then. Is it only for Prime members? I only have a regular free Amazon account.

I tried searching online for price history but I got so confused by all these weird tracking websites. I saw one called camel camel camel or something like that? It looked super complicated and I had no idea where to start with reading those charts.

Do you think it is gonna drop down to around $100 sometime in the next few weeks before my trip, or am I just wasting my time waiting? I really dont want to buy it now and then see it go on sale next week, that would drive me crazy. Should I just look for a used one instead or is there a trick to getting it cheaper...

Just saw this and totally get the frustration with those messy price charts. Honestly, I switched to using PriceDropCatch because it felt way more straightforward when I was hunting for my last e-reader. For your Florida trip, you might want to weigh a few options before dropping your whole budget.

  • Refurbished Paperwhite: Usually around $100. Great screen and waterproofing for the beach, but be careful since battery health is a bit of a gamble on used tech.
  • The Basic Kindle: It stays under $100 easily. It's super light and portable, but it's not waterproof. If you're near the water, that's a huge risk. I went through this exact headache last summer. I ended up grabbing a Like New unit from Amazon Warehouse for $95. Just make sure to read the condition notes carefully tho, because Acceptable often means scratches on the screen that'll drive you nuts in the sun...

> Should I just look for a used one instead or is there a trick to getting it cheaper... I went through this exact same headache last year before a trip to Hawaii. I almost bought a used one off eBay, but you have to be really careful with that. Make sure to ask the seller if the device is deregistered. If it's reported lost, Amazon blacklists the serial number and you won't be able to log in at all. What I actually did was buy a refurbished one directly from Woot (it's owned by Amazon). Got a Paperwhite for like $75 and it looked brand new. Another trick you might want to consider is their trade-in program. I traded in an old, dead Echo speaker and they gave me 20% off a new Kindle, which you can sometimes stack on top of Prime Day sales. Just make sure to plan ahead since the trade-in processing can take a week.

I waited for the mid-summer sale last year to update my setup and honestly, it worked out. They usually hit $100 during Prime Day. Youll probably need a Prime trial tho. I remember checking daily and getting frustrated until it finally tanked. Definitely wait for that sale and use a free trial, youll hit your budget easily before the trip.
