I'm building my portrait photography kit and looking for recommendations on Sony FE-mount lenses. Currently shooting with an A7 IV and considering the 85mm f/1.4 GM, 90mm f/2.8 Macro, or maybe the 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II for versatility. My budget is around $1,500-2,000. I mainly shoot headshots and family portraits, both studio and outdoor natural light. The bokeh quality and sharpness are my top priorities. What's been your go-to portrait lens? Any hidden gems I should consider? Thanks for the help!

Hands down, the Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM Mark II lens features a fast maximum aperture of f/1.4 in a compact, lightweight, and weather-sealed body. If you are searching for the best portrait lens for your Alpha mirrorless camera then this is it. The new Mark II lens weighs in at 22.7 oz. / 642 g vs 28.9 oz. / 820 g for the Mark I, making it 6.28 oz. / 178 g lighter than its predecessor. The autofocus is also up to 3x faster than the previous model thanks to dual XD linear motors.

For those on a budget, I'd strongly recommend the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8. The 85mm focal length is perfect for portrait photography, and the image quality is good. The size and weight of this lens invite long-term use, and the low price seals the deal. The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens is a great value.

The ultimate Sony nifty-fifty is the weather-resistant FE 50mm f/1.2 G Master lens. It's robust, relatively compact, and balances perfectly on any Sony full-frame Alpha body. The Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM features a tactile aperture ring, a smooth-glide focus ring, a focus mode selection switch, and a pair of customizable focus hold buttons. The bokeh and background blur are definitely great options for portrait photography. While 50mm isn't the traditional portrait focal length, it's incredibly versatile and the f/1.2 aperture gives you that dreamy look.

FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II, if you don't care the price.
