Hey! Looking for the best gimbal stabilizer for my Canon EOS R6 Mark II. I'm mostly shooting video of my car (2023 model). My budget is around $500. What's the best option at that price point?
^ This. Also, while that setup is a popular starting point, I've been pretty disappointed with how some older stabilizers handle the Canon EOS R6 Mark II. Unfortunately, I had issues with motor micro-jitters during high-speed tracking shots, and it just wasn't as solid as I expected for professional-looking automotive work. Technically speaking, the weight distribution on this body can be a bit of a nightmare depending on your glass.
Saw this earlier but just now responding. ^ This. Also, what Idellaivv mentioned about those micro-jitters is honestly the biggest hurdle with the R6 II. Over the years, I've tried many setups that looked fine on paper but failed in the field because the torque just wasn't there for automotive work. I've learned the hard way that cutting corners on the stabilizer usually leads to shaky footage that you can't even fix in post. Basically, the thread is split between an older budget-friendly unit and the reality of motor strain on a newer, heavier body. Before I can really tell you if your budget is realistic, I need to know a bit more. What lens are you actually planning to mount on there? If you're using something like the Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM, that's gonna be a way different story than a light prime lens. Also, are you planning to do mostly handheld tracking or are you mounting this to a car for chase shots? High-speed wind resistance changes everything for how these motors hold up.
I've used the DJI Ronin SC for years with my R6. Works well, no complaints.
