Looking for recommendations on Atomos monitor deals this Black Friday/Cyber Monday season. Currently eyeing their HDR monitor-recorders but unsure whether to wait for holiday sales or pull the trigger now. Particularly interested in bundles that might include SSDs or accessories. Also curious about historical Black Friday pricing - did anyone grab good Atomos deals during last year's sales?

honestly waiting for the holiday sales is usually the best move with Atomos. Based on what happened last year, they usually drop the price on the base units by a solid $100 to $150, especially for the older stock. Here are a few technical specs and deal types to watch for:

In my experience, waiting for the sales is 100 percent the right call. I remember grabbing a bundle a few years back and saved enough to basically buy an extra lens with the leftovers. Even though I am still figuring some of the advanced LUT stuff out, I have tried many of their screens over the years and the holiday season is always when the best bundles pop up. If you dont need the super high-end features of the Ultra stuff, here are two better value options I have used:

  • Atomos Ninja 5.2 Inch 4K HDMI Recording Monitor
  • This is the workhorse. Last year, the price fell a lot during Black Friday. Its perfect if you are just doing standard 4K ProRes. I have used it on tons of shoots and it basically never lets me down.
  • Atomos Shinobi 7 Inch 4K HDMI HDR Photo and Video Monitor
  • If you just want a big, bright screen for pulling focus and dont care about recording in-monitor, this is way better value. Its huge and the HDR is super punchy compared to the smaller 5 inch versions. Keep an eye out for the bundles that toss in an Angelbird AtomX SSDmini 1TB or the power kits. Usually those accessories are where the real savings hide during Cyber Monday... dont buy them separately right now if you can wait a few weeks. It makes a huge difference to the wallet honestly.
