I just recently upgraded to the DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo and I am absolutely loving the dual-camera setup and the improved flight time. However, the soft shoulder bag that DJI includes in the kit just doesn't feel protective enough for the type of traveling I do. I spend a lot of time hiking through rugged terrain and frequently take my gear on off-road trips, so I am really worried about the drone getting crushed in my pack or damaged by dust and moisture.
I am looking for a high-quality, hard-shell carrying case that can survive some rough handling. Ideally, I need something with precision-cut foam that fits the Air 3 and the RC 2 controller perfectly. It is important to me that the case has dedicated slots for at least three batteries and a small compartment for ND filters and spare props. I have seen a few options from brands like GPC and Nanuk, but I am not sure if they are worth the premium price or if there is a more mid-range brand that offers similar durability.
Does anyone have a specific recommendation for a waterproof and crushproof case that isn't overly bulky for travel? What is the best rugged case you have used so far for your Air 3 setup?

Yo, I totally hear u on the DJI bag—its honestly pretty disappointing for anything more than a walk in the park. I mean, it looks cool but I had issues with mine during a dusty trip to Moab where I realized it basically offers zero protection from impact or fine sand. I have spent way too much time looking at technical specs for cases because I hate the idea of a $1k drone getting crunched in my trunk or while trekking through rough spots. For your situation, here is what I recommend based on some technical analysis and real-world use:
- GPC DJI Air 3 Case (GPC-DJI-AIR-3): This is basically the gold standard for precision. They use water-jet cut closed-cell foam which is superior because it doesnt soak up moisture or crumble like the cheap open-cell stuff. Unfortunately, it is a bit heavy for long hikes, but the protection is absolute overkill.
- Lykus Titan MA300 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Air 3: Honestly, this is the best mid-range pick if you dont wanna pay the premium for GPC. It has a solid IP67 rating and the latches feel way more secure than the generic brands. It fits the DJI RC 2 perfectly with dedicated battery slots.
- HPRC2400 for DJI Air 3: If weight is ur main concern for hiking, look at this one. Its an Italian brand and they use a proprietary resin thats lighter than what most competitors use, though it is still highkey indestructible. Basically, you gotta watch for the foam density. Low-quality cases use foam that is not as good as expected and starts to degrade under heat, which is a nightmare for the gimbal motors. Oh man, i totally feel u on this. I mean, the DJI bag is okay for like, a walk in the park, but taking it off-road? No way. Last fall I was hiking through some pretty gnarly terrain in the Rockies and my pack actually tumbled down a small embankment. If i had been using that soft bag, my DJI Air 3 Fly More Combo wouldve basically been a pile of expensive plastic. Honestly, those soft cases offer zero crush protection and the zippers always let in dust. For your situation, here's what i recommend based on my experience:
- Nanuk 915 Hard Case for DJI Air 3: This is honestly the one to beat. The PowerClaw latches are lowkey the best in the industry because they dont pop open if you drop the case. It's made of NK-7 resin which is seriously crushproof and handles extreme temps well. Plus, the foam is high-quality closed-cell stuff, so it doesn't soak up moisture or crumble over time. It fits the DJI RC 2 perfectly and has room for 5 batteries total plus your filters and props.
- GPC DJI Air 3 Hard Case: GPC is also top-tier. Their foam is water-jet cut and super precise. They have a specific cutout for the DJI Air 3 ND Filters Set and spare props so nothing is rattling around.
- Lykus HC-3310 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Air 3: If the premium brands feel too pricey, this is the best mid-range option imo. Seconding the recommendation above. Also wanted to add that rugged terrain requires better vibration dampening to protect those gimbal motors. Id suggest:
- SKB iSeries Case for DJI Air 3 because the latches are super secure
- HPRC2400 Hard Case for DJI Air 3 which is lightweight and tough Honestly, id be careful with cheaper brands cuz the seals can fail in heat. Make sure to check the O-ring for dust every time you close it. gl!

Quick question - are you planning to shove the case inside a bigger hiking pack or strap it to the outside? Saw this earlier but just now responding. Hard cases act like a roll cage. This matters cuz off-roading vibrations can loosen internal screws. I once used a soft bag on a trail and my gimbal never calibrated right again. Honestly, just look at generic brands on Amazon. They're usually just as tough for way less money tbh.
