Hey guys! I just upgraded to the DJI Air 3, but I find the standard Fly More bag a bit too cramped for my hiking trips. I'm really nervous about the propellers getting bent or the RC 2 screen getting scratched while it's stuffed in there.

I'm looking for a rugged third-party case that fits:

  • The drone and RC 2 controller
  • Three batteries plus the charging hub
  • Spare props and cables

I've been looking at hard shells from GPC or Nanuk, but I'm open to anything that's durable and water-resistant. Does anyone have a favorite that doesn't bulk up too much in a backpack? What is the best third-party carrying case for the DJI Air 3?

I used to be obsessed with buying the most expensive gear until I realized budget options are often just as solid. I eventually picked up the Smatree DH1000M3 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Air 3 and it has been a total lifesaver. It fits my RC 2 perfectly and costs way less than boutique brands. Saved enough money for extra props, which is always a plus!

Congrats on the upgrade! I totally get it, that Fly More bag is way too cramped for my liking too. I have tried both brands you mentioned and honestly, there are some trade-offs to consider. If you want absolute tank-like protection, the Nanuk 915 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Air 3 is incredible. Those PowerClaw latches are super secure and the build quality is top notch. But ngl, it is pretty chunky if you are trying to shove it inside a standard backpack. For hiking, I actually prefer the GPC DJI Air 3 Hard Case Waterproof. The water-jet cut foam is stiffer so it holds the RC 2 and drone perfectly with no wiggle room. It feels a bit more streamlined than the Nanuk. If you really need to save space, the STARTRC DJI Air 3 Carrying Case is a solid semi-hard option that is much lighter and fits better in a pack. Personally, I stick with the GPC for the peace of mind tho!

Agree with the previous post, those hard cases are basically bulletproof. One thing to keep in mind though is the weight trade-off for hiking. Quick question before I suggest an alternative—are you planning to slide this case inside your current hiking pack, or do you want a standalone case with a shoulder strap? Knowing your pack size would help a lot so I dont point you toward something too bulky.

tbh, if you're worried about those props bending, you really need a case with precision-cut foam. I personally use the Lykus Titan MA300 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Air 3 and it's been rock solid on my trails. It keeps the RC 2 screen safe and fits the charging hub perfectly. It usually costs around 65 dollars and feels way more reliable than the standard bag for keeping things secure.
