I’ve been flying my DJI (using the standard controller) for a few months now, and longer sessions are starting to feel rough on my hands. My thumbs get tired doing small stick adjustments, and I also feel like the controller is a bit “slippery” when it’s hot out. I’ve seen a bunch of accessories like stick extenders, different thumb grips, lanyards/neck straps, and even controller grips or hand rests, but I’m not sure what actually makes a real difference vs. just looking cool. I’d love something that improves precision for smoother pans and reduces fatigue, without making packing awkward. Which DJI controller accessories have genuinely improved your comfort and control?
For your situation, I’d go **thumb grips** vs **stick extenders** vs **lanyard**: grips add traction when sweaty (biggest win), extenders help micro-moves but made packing annoying (and i crashed once lol), lanyard helps fatigue + “slippery” feel—just don’t snag props.
Hmm, I’ve had a different experience than the “add more stuff to the sticks” route… for comfort *and* safety/reliability, I’d actually start with a **neck strap + proper mounting point** and skip extenders/grips unless you really need them. A solid strap takes the death-grip out of your hands (huge for thumb fatigue) and it’s literally a drop-prevention backup if you sweat or get bumped.
What’s worked well for me is DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller Neck Strap Mount paired with a basic strap like PGYTECH Camera Shoulder Neck Strap (any decent one, but I like ones with wide webbing). Set the length so the controller “floats” at mid-torso and you’re just guiding the sticks, not supporting weight. Bonus: it packs flat, unlike a lot of bolt-on handles.
Second tip: add **grip tape**, not a case. Like the stuff for cameras/phones: 3M Safety-Walk General Purpose Anti-Slip Tape 610 1 in x 18 ft Black. It’s lowkey the best sweaty-hands fix, doesn’t mess with button tolerances, and won’t loosen mid-flight like some clip-on grips can (idk, maybe I’ve just had bad luck??).
I’ve been satisfied with this setup… no complaints, and it feels way more secure on hot days. cheers

Oh man, been there… I did a long beach session last summer and my hands were cooked. What actually helped (and didnt just look cool):
- STARTRC DJI RC/RC-N1 Silicone Remote Controller Cover Case ($12-20): adds legit friction when sweaty, plus a little palm comfort.
- DJI RC Control Sticks (Pair) or DJI RC-N1 Control Sticks (Pair) (~$10-15): swapping to fresh OEM sticks oddly improved feel—my old ones got slick.
- PGYTECH Strap for DJI Remote Controller (~$15-25): takes weight off your fingers; just keep it short so it doesn’t swing.
Unfortunately, stick extenders gave me better micro-inputs but were annoying to pack and bumped my bag once… so yeah, I avoid em now. gl!
I went through this last year. Hot day, long flight session, and the stock controller finish + my sweaty hands was a bad combo… like, I felt I was death-gripping it just to not fumble it. Unfortunately that made my thumbs way more tired because I was doing tiny corrections while my hands were tense. Not great.
What changed it for me wasn’t the “cool looking” stuff, it was the boring comfort bits: I tried a cheap neck strap setup (not fancy) and it immediately took some load off my wrists/forearms, which weirdly helped thumb precision too since I wasn’t bracing as hard. Then I added a little stick topper thing (not an extender… more like a cap) and I could run lighter thumb pressure. The downside: some of those caps are too tall/soft and feel mushy, so I ended up tossing the first set (wasted like fifteen bucks, annoyingly).
Also, I learned the hard way that anything you have to remove every pack/unpack gets old FAST. If it doesn’t fold flat or stay on, I stop using it.
Quick Qs so I can calibrate: which DJI controller is it (phone-mounted vs the screen controller)? And are you mostly standing/walking, or seated/tripod work? That changes what feels “fatiguing” a lot, imo.
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
@Reply #6 - good point! Honestly tho, it drives me crazy that we are even in this position. I have been flying for years and the lack of ergonomic progress is just mind-blowing.
