I'm totally lost with all these numbers on lenses so sorry if this is basic. I'm going to NYC next month and want to take street photos without a huge setup.

  • budget is $400
  • really small size
  • easy for someone who knows nothing

Is there a specific one I should look at...

I really wanted to love the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR but unfortunately it felt flimsy. I had focus issues during my last trip that ruined half my photos... just not as good as expected. Honestly, grab the Fujifilm Fujinon XC 35mm f/2 for your NYC trip. Its way cheaper and actually reliable. You wont regret saving that money.

Regarding what #3 said about "Good to know!" - unfortunately native glass often feels fragile. I'd suggest the TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 AF Fuji X for reliability.

  • robust metal housing
  • clicky aperture ring

@Reply #1 - good point! Those XC lenses are amazing for keeping things light. Lately I heard about a tiny wide-angle pancake lens that people love for NYC too... IIRC its barely an inch thick!

  • helps with those massive skyscrapers
  • fits in a jacket pocket easily
  • super stealthy for candids Not 100% sure on the price lately but youre gonna have a blast!
