Hey everyone! I’ve been shooting with Fuji for a couple of years now, but I’m finally looking to transition into more serious, professional portrait work. I’m currently rocking the X-T5, but I feel like my current lens lineup—mostly zooms and the 35mm f/2—isn’t giving me that high-end, 'pro' look with the creamy bokeh and subject separation I see in top-tier portfolios.

I’ve been doing a lot of research, and I’m torn between a few legendary options. The XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR seems like the obvious choice for that classic 85mm equivalent look, but I’ve also heard incredible things about the XF 90mm f/2 for its insane sharpness and background compression. Then there’s the massive 50mm f/1.0, which looks like a bokeh monster, but I’m a bit worried about the weight and how well the autofocus keeps up during a fast-paced session.

I mainly shoot outdoors and in larger studio spaces, so I usually have the room to back up if I need to. I really want something that handles skin tones beautifully and delivers that 'wow' factor that clients expect when they pay for a professional session. For those of you making a living with your Fuji gear, which prime lens would you consider the absolute 'holy grail' for a professional portrait setup?

yo, coming back to this after an hour... if youre shooting on the Fujifilm X-T5, you highkey need glass that can actually resolve that 40MP sensor. i mean, ive been super satisfied with my setup lately and it works well for that 'pro' look you want. Here's what I recommend:
- Grab the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR as your primary choice. It handles skin tones beautifully and actually has the resolving power for the newer sensors compared to the old R version. - If you really want that crazy 'wow' factor and creamy bokeh, the Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR is a total monster, but honestly it's heavy as heck and the AF can be a bit hunt-y compared to others. Quick tip: Stick with the newer WR primes because they're basically optimized for the T5's high pixel density. I think the 56mm is probably the 'holy grail' for most studio stuff tbh. peace!

Oh man, I totally feel u on this. I've tested all of these on my Fujifilm X-T5 and honestly, it's kinda frustrating how many trade-offs there are. Since your looking for that 'pro' look, you need glass that can actually resolve that 40MP sensor. Here's the technical breakdown:
- Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR: The classic choice, but ngl, the AF motor is still not as snappy as I expected for a newer WR version. It's sharp, but it hunts a bit too much in backlight.
- Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR: This is actually the winner. The Quad Linear Motor is literally instant. You get that insane 135mm compression that looks SO high-end. Seriously, its the sharpest lens Fuji makes.
- Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR: Total bokeh monster, but the 845g weight is a nightmare. AF is lowkey glacial cuz of the heavy glass. I'd go with the 90mm for the reliability. gl!
