So I finally swapped over to the S5II last month and man the autofocus is actually good now but I am struggling with which glass to pick up next. I have been looking at the Sigma Art line because obviously everyone says they are the best bang for your buck but the L-mount options are kinda confusing me.
I read online that the 35mm 1.4 is basically a must have but then I saw some people saying the newer DG DN version is way better than the older ones but then other people say the 50mm is more versatile for all around shooting. I have a wedding coming up in Seattle next month so I really need something that can handle low light in a rainy church and I have about 1500 bucks to spend on one really solid prime.
I also saw some stuff about the 24-70 being the gold standard but I kinda prefer the look of primes for portraits so I am torn between the 35 and the 85. Is the weight on the 85mm Art as bad as people say it is for a full day of shooting? I dont want to be miserable by the end of the reception. If you had to pick just two Sigma Art primes to live on an L-mount body for professional work what are the ones that actually live up to the hype and dont feel like a brick?
Grab the Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG DN Art first! Its amazing!!
Totally agree about the DG DN advice. The older HSM glass was unfortunately way too heavy and a letdown for handheld work. I had issues with balance on my S5II. The Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art is better but still chunky for a ten-hour day.
Always verify you're getting the DG DN versions. Not the HSM ones. The weather sealing is way more reliable for a rainy climate like Seattle. I'd suggest the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art and the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art. Theyre decent options that arent nearly as heavy as the 85mm. The autofocus is much more consistent on the S5II tho. Safe picks for a long wedding day...
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
