So I finally jumped ship to the L-mount world with a used S5II after years of shooting Fuji and man the autofocus is a dream compared to my old setup but the lens prices are a total gut punch lol. Im used to those tiny little fujicrons or just adapting vintage glass but for street work I really need native AF that doesnt hunt. I mostly shoot around downtown Chicago and I need something that doesnt make me look like a total tourist with a massive 24-70mm brick sticking out. I prefer primes usually 35mm or 50mm but honestly everything in this mount seems so pricey if you arent buying the heavy pro glass. I looked at the Sigma I-series which look beautiful but even those are creeping up there in price brand new.
Here is what I am aiming for:
I saw some manual stuff like TTArtisan but I think I need AF for the way I shoot people moving. Is the Panasonic 1.8 prime series the only real value play here or are there some third party gems I am overlooking? I'm specifically looking for a solid 35mm equivalent if possible...
Like someone mentioned, those Sigmas are sick but have you checked the Sigma 24mm f/3.5 DG DN Contemporary? Im really satisfied with how tiny it is for street... basically turns the S5II into a point and shoot. Works well and doesnt draw attention. Are you strictly looking for f/1.8 for the low light, or is f/3.5 okay if you bump the ISO? The Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 is also a total bargain used if you want more bokeh.
For street work on the S5II, check these options:
> Weather sealing would be nice because of the lakefront wind and mist I am satisfied with the Panasonic Lumix S 24mm f/1.8 as it works well and stays reliable. Its a safe, sealed choice that performs consistently in damp environments.
