So I finally upgraded to the S5II for my Tokyo trip next month but honestly im just so frustrated with the 20-60mm kit lens. It is way too slow for night shots and the bokeh is basically non-existent which is driving me crazy when I try to get those nice street portraits. I feel like I'm wasting the sensor's potential with this glass and its making me regret the switch from Sony a bit.
I have about 1500 bucks left in my budget and I really need some fast primes that actually take advantage of the new phase detect autofocus because my old adapted glass is pulsing like crazy. What are the absolute best prime lenses for this thing that wont break my back while walking around all day?
Spent a week shooting Shinjuku nights last year and found the f1.8 series keeps weight down perfectly. For those street portraits, the 85mm is a decent option compared to your kit glass.
To add to the point above: I disagree that f1.8s are always enough. Consider Sigma 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art. TL;DR: Superior weather sealing and optics wont let you down in Tokyo rain.
I've noticed the native f1.8 primes really maximize that PDAF cycle. I would suggest the Panasonic Lumix S 35mm f1.8 for those tight Tokyo streets.
Regarding what #1 said about native primes maximizing AF, I agree, but unfortunately some weren't as good as expected. IIRC focus breathing is still weird, but I can check around for you.
