Just got a Sigma fp for a trip to Japan and I'm lost.

  • budget is $200 max
  • mainly for street photos
  • need it to be easy to carry

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I have no idea where to start with all these cages and grips and stuff...

To add to the point above: the fp writes huge 12-bit DNG files, so write speed is more critical than a cage for street photography. The buffer lags on slow media.

Honestly, i think you should be really careful with how tiny it is. IIRC, people say it can slip pretty easily when you're walking around Tokyo. You might want to consider:

  • a secure hand strap
  • extra batteries (it eats power fast)
  • a small thumb grip Not sure but i heard some accessories can block the battery door, so definitely check that first!

Stumbled on this while looking at sensor data on CineD. Taking a similar setup to Osaka last year taught me about data reliability. My cable wiggled loose once and it corrupted several files. You wont want that happening on a big trip.

  • Consult the official Sigma technical support lists for media compatibility.
  • Check the voltage and wattage specs before using third-party power.
  • Monitor heat sink temperatures during high-bitrate continuous use.
